Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Investment Banking Associate to join our TMT (Technology, Media, and Telecommunications) group in Chicago. As an Associate, you will play a key role in supporting the execution of financial advisory services for clients across the TMT sectors, including technology companies, media enterprises, and telecommunications firms. Key Responsibilities

Transaction Execution & Deal Structuring:
  • Lead and support the execution of M&A transactions, capital markets deals, and other strategic advisory services, with a focus on TMT clients.
  • Develop and maintain sophisticated financial models to evaluate mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and other strategic initiatives, including Discounted Cash Flow (DCF), Comparable Company Analysis (CCA), and Precedent Transaction Analysis (PTA).
  • Prepare, edit, and review key client deliverables, such as pitch books, management presentations, information memoranda, and offering documents.
  • Assist in the structuring of transactions, negotiate terms, and contribute to the drafting and review of transaction documentation (e.g., term sheets, agreements, and closing documents).
Client Interaction & Relationship Management:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with senior executives and key decision-makers at TMT clients.
  • Lead client meetings, presenting financial analysis and strategic recommendations.
  • Provide ongoing, proactive advice on industry trends, financial strategies, and capital markets developments within the TMT sector.
  • Serve as the primary day-to-day point of contact for clients and collaborate with senior bankers to identify and capitalize on new business opportunities.
Market & Industry Research:
  • Conduct in-depth industry research and competitive analysis to inform transaction strategy, pricing, and structure.
  • Stay up-to-date with key TMT trends (e.g., digital transformation, cybersecurity, 5G deployment, streaming services, etc.), regulatory changes, and competitive landscape dynamics.
  • Use market intelligence to anticipate client needs and provide actionable insights.
Due Diligence & Process Management:
  • Manage and oversee the due diligence process, coordinating with internal teams, legal advisors, accountants, and other third parties.
  • Provide analytical support for due diligence findings and assist in identifying key risks and opportunities for clients.
  • Lead the preparation of financial models and other materials for internal and external meetings, ensuring quality, accuracy, and timeliness.
Team Leadership & Mentorship:
  • Guide and mentor analysts and junior team members in financial modeling, client interaction, and transaction execution.
  • Foster a collaborative and dynamic work environment, ensuring that the team delivers high-quality work on time and within budget.
  • Take ownership of individual aspects of the transaction process while working seamlessly with senior bankers and other team members.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field from a top-tier university.
    • An MBA from a leading business school is preferred but not required.
  • Experience:
    • 2-4 years of experience as an Investment Banking Analyst or Associate in a reputable investment bank, preferably with a focus on TMT sectors (Technology, Media, and Telecommunications).
    • Extensive experience with M&A transactions, financial modeling, and transaction execution.
    • Previous experience with capital raising (e.g., IPOs, debt offerings) and public and private M&A transactions is highly preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of financial modeling and valuation techniques, including DCF, LBO, Comparable Company, and Precedent Transactions.
    • Exceptional Excel skills for financial modeling and PowerPoint skills for client presentations.
    • Solid understanding of key TMT trends and market drivers (e.g., cloud computing, AI, streaming media, telecommunications infrastructure, etc.).
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with clients and senior management.
    • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
