Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Investment Banking Associate to join our team in Richmond. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in M&A, corporate finance, or private equity and a demonstrated ability to perform complex financial analysis and manage transaction workstreams. This role is a key part of our lean deal teams, working closely with senior bankers and client executives to execute sell-side mandates from origination to closing. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Transaction Execution: Lead the day-to-day execution of sell-side M&A transactions, including preparing confidential information memoranda (CIMs), pitch books, and other marketing materials.
  • Financial Analysis: Develop and maintain complex financial models, including discounted cash flow (DCF), comparable company analysis, precedent transactions, and leveraged buyout (LBO) analyses.
  • Due Diligence: Manage the due diligence process, coordinating information flow between the client, potential buyers, legal advisors, and accounting partners.
  • Research and Sourcing: Conduct in-depth industry and company-specific research to identify potential strategic buyers or investors.
  • Client Interaction: Participate in client meetings, management presentations, and buyer discussions. Act as a primary point of contact for clients throughout the process.
  • Business Development: Support senior bankers in new business development efforts by creating pitch materials and contributing to market research.
  • Mentorship: Assist in the training and mentorship of junior analysts on the team. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; an MBA or CFA designation is a plus.
  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in investment banking, corporate finance, private equity, or a related M&A finance field.
  • Strong financial modeling and valuation skills are essential.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex financial concepts clearly and confidently.
  • Assertive, self-motivated, and able to succeed in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a small, dynamic team.
  • Based in or willing to relocate to the Richmond, VA, area.
