The pipe layer is responsible for preparing and installing underground pipelines; most frequently water lines, storm and sanitary sewer. Duties also include general labor and cleanup and may extend beyond this job description.
You will get to learn from a skilled employer how to:
- Install sanitary sewer, storm water sewer and consumable water structures and pipe systems.
- Lay out pipe routes, following specifications or blueprints and coordinating layouts with supervisor.
- Cut pipes to required lengths.
- Aligning pipes during pipeline construction.
- Align and position pipes to prepare them for welding or sealing.
- Check slopes for conformance to requirements, using levels or lasers.
- Connect pipe pieces and seal joints, using welding equipment, cement or glue.
- Tap and drill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices.
- Cover pipes with earth or other materials.
- Grade and level trench bases, using tamping machines and hand tools.
- Intimate and working knowledge of industry standard hand signals.
- Other general labor and construction related duties as required.
Environmental Working Conditions:
All work is performed outside in heat, cold, and inclement weather.
Exposure to all elements of nature

Exposure to fumes, odors, gasses, dusts, etc.
Work in close proximity to heavy traffic
