    Payroll Coordinator

    Location: Downtown LA 90071

     

    Our client, an AmLaw 50 firm, has an opening for a Payroll Coordinator. The Payroll Coordinator provides transactional support for payroll and timekeeping. This position will report to the Payroll Manager.

     

    In this capacity, the Payroll Coordinator will:

    • Monitor data flow for new hires - set up taxes and contact employees for self-service signup for tax and direct deposit. Set up tax withholding profiles;
    • Monitor terminations, preparing final payments with appropriate hours and deductions. Prepare wire transfer files;
    • Calculate benefit deduction and salary adjustments as identified in reports or emails;
    • Ensure that payroll checklists are completed for each payroll. Ensure that payroll files are downloaded and maintained for each payroll. Review payroll entries for accuracy;
    • Monitor timecard completions by employees, approvals by managers. Respond to questions related to time entry;
    • Review data file integrations from HR system for employee data and timekeeping files. Research and resolve errors;
    • Respond to employee payroll and timekeeping inquiries. Manage the incoming inquiries to the common mailbox, ensuring timely and accurate responses; and
    • Administer employee deductions for special programs such as gym membership, parking and other programs as needed.

     

    Qualifications:

    • High school diploma (required); Associates degree (preferred); Bachelor’s degree (preferred);
    • At least 1 year of payroll or timekeeping experience (preferred);
    • At least 1 year of experience in a legal or professional service environment (preferred);
    • Fundamental knowledge of payroll regulations and best practices;
    • Fundamental proficiency in payroll applications and related reporting tools;
    • Fundamental proficiency in electronic timekeeping systems;
    • Fundamental proficiency in MS-Excel and spreadsheet/database applications;
    • Fundamental proficiency in MS Outlook and email/web-based conference call/web-sharing applications;
    • Fundamental proficiency in MS Word and related document editing applications;
    • Fundamental proficiency in executing customer service skills and principles; and
    • Fundamental proficiency in the operation of office equipment, such as copiers, scanners.
