Your New Role

As Controller, you will orchestrate all corporate accounting functions with precision and efficacy. You will provide crucial information for strategic and informed decision-making and will have a seat at the leadership table in what is going to be an influential position. You will oversee the budget process, establish robust accounting policies and procedures and positively impact culture and retention of staff. You'll assess the effectiveness of accounting software and databases, monitor business performance metrics, and ensure compliance with regulatory reporting. Additionally, you will educate field operations on profitability drivers and ROI fundamentals, coordinate the preparation of internal and external financial statements, and liaise with external accountants and financial institutions to streamline activities. You'll also be responsible for overseeing property accounting, collaborating closely with site staff teams to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance. Your duties will include managing monthly accounting close procedures, conducting thorough financial statement reviews, preparing and reviewing year-end financial reports, contributing to annual budget development and facilitating successful audits through collaboration with external auditors. Handling recruitment, training, and retention efforts, and leading a dedicated team of accounting professionals will round out your responsibilities.

What Sets You Apart

To thrive in this role, you must be a designated accountant (CA, CPA) and have a minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3-5 years in a leadership role within the multi-residential property management industry. Proficiency in Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE), IFRS, and/or Canadian GAAP, advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Word are essential. You should possess exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities, along with a results-driven mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement. Outstanding team leadership and communication skills, with a focus on coaching, mentoring, and fostering a culture of excellence, are also key. A values-driven approach, demonstrating empathy, credibility, and trust, coupled with an ambitious and forward-thinking mentality, will set you apart in this role.

What You Can Expect

This role will initially require you to work full-time in office in Oakville however, you can transition into a hybrid model after establishing trust and rapport with the team. You will have an opportunity to visit the sites with the President and Head of Property Operations, so you have a solid understanding of the portfolio.
