This Technical Accountant role is a newly created role and is part of our long-term accounting department succession plan.

Technical Accountant – Your Job Duties:

In this role, you will support the accounting department with the monthly close along with supporting the CFO with writing technical accounting memos and researching technical accounting matters. In addition, you may serve as the back-up for all other roles in the department including payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. Your specific job duties will include:

  • Assist with month-end close and financial preparation including booking journal entries, account reconciliations for select accounts, and supporting Accounting Manager in financial accounting duties.
  • Support CFO with technical accounting research and memos.
  • Serving as back-up for other accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll (certified payroll, union reporting, prevailing wage).
  • Assist with preparing schedules for year-end audit.

Technical Accountant Required Skills & Prior Experience

  • Prior experience with general ledger accounting duties including supporting month-end close, account reconciliations, and supporting financial statement preparation
  • Prior experience performing technical accounting research including researching GAAP financial matters and technical write ups
  • Self-sufficient, organized, detail-oriented, persistent, strong follow-up skills and attention to detail to follow established processes
  • 4-year degree in finance, accounting, or related
  • Strong MS Excel skills – ability to navigate spreadsheets, formulas (vLookups, pivot tables a plus)
  • Desire for a long-term role with the company and opportunity for promotion into a greater role

Technical Accountant – Desired, Not Required:

  • Experience working with Sage 300 / Timberline software
  • Prior experience processing payroll in-house in a union environment, including certified payroll reporting and union payroll
  • Prior experience in public accounting in an audit role
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
