Contract-to-Hire Accountant

A respected organization in Monterey County is hiring a Contract-to-Hire Accountant to join its mission-driven team. This is a unique opportunity to apply your accounting skills in a role that supports community-based programs.
You’ll be a key accountant on a small, collaborative finance team—handling a mix of payroll, GL reconciliation, audits, and budget prep. Ideal for someone who’s detail-oriented, comfortable with Excel, and ready for work that actually means something.
ResponsibilitiesMonthly GL reconciliation and financial reporting
Process payroll and prepare budget-to-actual reports
Review invoices for compliance and assist with agency audits
Manage billing, cash applications, and compliance documentation
Assist with budget preparation and financial systems maintenance
Other related duties as assigned
3+ years of accounting experience (or 5 years without a degree)
Associate’s in Accounting or Finance preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; comfort with office software
Understanding of GAAP, payroll, and compliance standards
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Valid California driver's license, clean driving record, and auto insurance
$30–$38 per hour depending on experience
Contract-to-hire opportunity with potential to go permanent
