Accounting Manager

A large, national corporation is seeking an Accounting Manager to lead their accounting operations within their Real Estate Division. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for overseeing the accounting and financial reporting for a diverse portfolio of real estate assets, including owned and leased properties, development projects, and joint ventures. The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge of real estate accounting, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments in a fast-paced, national corporate environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process for the real estate division under the Controller, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with GAAP and corporate policies.
  • Manage and mentor a team of accountants, providing leadership, training, and performance feedback.
  • Coordinate property-level accounting for acquisitions, dispositions, development projects, lease accounting (ASC 842), and capital expenditures.
  • Prepare and review internal and external financial statements and management reports.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, corporate accounting policies, and SOX requirements (if applicable).
  • Collaborate with real estate, legal, FP&A, tax, and treasury teams on cross-functional initiatives.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes related to real estate operations and capital projects.
  • Manage audits and liaise with external auditors as needed.
  • Provide strategic financial insights and ad hoc analysis to support real estate decisions, including lease vs. buy, return on investment, and portfolio optimization.
  • Maintain and enhance accounting systems and process efficiencies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a CPA are required.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Prior experience in real estate accounting (commercial, retail, or residential), including familiarity with CAM reconciliations, lease accounting, and development accounting.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and experience with ASC 842 lease accounting.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, Yardi, MRI) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.



Compensation: $130,000-$150,000.00
