Senior Accountant Financial Reporting

Our client, a well-established insurance carrier serving the healthcare industry, provides tailored coverage and risk management solutions designed to protect medical professionals and their practices. The Senior Accountant, Financial Reporting will support accurate accounting, reconciliation, and reporting of insurance-related liabilities while contributing to process improvements and compliance initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Record and analyze journal entries for loss activity, including paid, case, and incurred-but-not-reported transactions, across both direct and reinsurance portfolios.

  • Maintain and enhance internal tracking tools used for loss development, reserving analyses, and regulatory reporting.

  • Participate in month-end and quarter-end closing by reconciling relevant accounts and preparing detailed supporting documentation.

  • Assist with audit activities by gathering backup materials, providing explanations, and ensuring adherence to established accounting standards.

  • Work closely with Claims and Finance teams to monitor and validate payments and reserve movements.

  • Partner with Actuarial staff on reserve reviews and help align financial results across functional groups.

  • Contribute to the preparation of financial statements, disclosures, and insurance regulatory schedules as required.

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, strengthen controls, and automate workflows.

  • Support the production of quarterly and annual financial reports, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and compliance with reporting standards.

  • Help establish and document procedures that reinforce compliance with accounting and statutory requirements.

  • Collaborate with technology teams to enhance data integrity and streamline reporting systems.

  • Perform other related duties or special projects as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline required.

  • CPA or advanced degree (MBA, MAcc) preferred.

  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in public or corporate accounting; prior exposure to the insurance sector a plus.

  • Solid understanding of US GAAP; knowledge of statutory accounting standards beneficial.

  • Proven experience in general ledger management, account reconciliations, and period-end close activities.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets accurately.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; familiarity with accounting software such as Sage Intacct preferred.




Compensation: $90,000-$115,000
