Our client, The University of San Francisco (USF) is looking to hire a full-time legal fellow to assist in the Racial Justice Clinic.

The University of San Francisco is currently seeking a self-motivated and hardworking legal fellow to assistt in the RJA clinic mail project and grant administration project. This position is located onsite.

Responsibilities:

RJC/RJA Mail Project

  • Review and process RJA claims from incarcerated people
  • Conduct preliminary investigation and direct referrals
  • Work with RJC director and supervising attorneys in cases involving racial discrimination
  • Communicate with RJA partners to advance initiative

RJA Grant Administrative Project

  • Assist in building and training roster of pro bono attorneys/firms to draft habeas petitions in retroactive RJA cases
  • Administer the block grant project with attorneys and RJA claimants
  • Connect viable RJA claimants with potential attorney-grantees under supervision of RJC director
  • Track case progress and work within deadlines
  • Utilize Workday and Concur to distribute grant funds
  • Provide reporting to grantors regarding grant projects

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Juris Doctor Preferred
  • Prior experience as a paralegal, administrative assistant, or research attorney preferred
  • Understanding of how racial bias has impacted the criminal legal system
  • Commitment to anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Strong record of working with underserved and marginalized groups

Salary Range: $75,000 - $80,000 annualized
