We are looking for a meticulous and security-conscious Data Custodian to manage and safeguard our organization's data assets. As a Data Custodian, you will ensure that data is stored, accessed, and handled securely and efficiently. You will work closely with Data Stewards, IT teams, and business stakeholders to enforce data policies, maintain data integrity, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Data Storage and Maintenance:

    • Manage the storage, backup, and archiving of data across systems to ensure reliability and recoverability.
    • Monitor and optimize data storage solutions for performance and cost-efficiency.
  2. Data Access and Security:

    • Implement and enforce access controls, ensuring only authorized personnel have access to data.
    • Collaborate with IT teams to configure and monitor data encryption, firewalls, and other security measures.
  3. Policy Implementation:

    • Enforce organizational policies and standards for data usage, retention, and disposal.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA) and internal governance policies.
  4. Collaboration with Data Stakeholders:

    • Work with Data Stewards to address data quality issues and support data governance initiatives.
    • Collaborate with IT and business teams to align data handling practices with organizational goals.
  5. Incident Response and Recovery:

    • Assist in identifying and resolving data breaches, security incidents, or data integrity issues.
    • Support disaster recovery efforts by maintaining data backup and recovery plans.
  6. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain detailed records of data storage locations, access controls, and data handling procedures.
    • Generate reports on data access, usage, and compliance as needed.

Qualifications:

  1. Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Management, or a related field.
    • 2+ years of experience in data management, IT, or information security roles.
  2. Technical Skills:

    • Familiarity with data storage and backup tools (e.g., NetBackup, AWS S3, Azure Blob Storage).
    • Experience with data security tools and practices, including encryption and access control systems.
    • Proficiency in database management and querying (e.g., SQL, Oracle, MongoDB).
  3. Knowledge and Competencies:

    • Understanding of data lifecycle management and governance frameworks.
    • Knowledge of relevant data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA).
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  4. Soft Skills:

    • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying risks or issues.
    • Strong communication skills to work effectively with technical and non-technical teams.
    • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications in data security or governance (e.g., CISM, CDMP, CISSP).
  • Experience with cloud platforms and services (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Knowledge of ITIL practices for IT service management.
