We are seeking an experienced Metadata Manager to lead the strategy, governance, and management of our organization's metadata. As a Metadata Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring that metadata is accurately captured, managed, and made accessible to stakeholders across the business. You will work closely with data governance teams, business analysts, data architects, and IT departments to develop a consistent metadata framework that supports data discovery, quality, security, and usability. Key Responsibilities:

  1. Metadata Strategy and Governance:

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive metadata management strategy that aligns with business goals and data governance frameworks.
    • Establish and enforce metadata standards, policies, and best practices across the organization.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements related to metadata, including data privacy and security regulations.
  2. Metadata Repository Management:

    • Oversee the creation and maintenance of the organization's metadata repository (data catalog).
    • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of metadata captured from various systems, databases, and applications.
    • Implement automated tools and processes to gather, validate, and update metadata.
  3. Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Work with business units and data teams to define metadata requirements and ensure metadata is captured in a way that meets the needs of different stakeholders.
    • Act as the point of contact for all metadata-related inquiries and provide guidance to data stewards, analysts, and other teams on best practices.
  4. Data Quality and Lineage:

    • Work with data governance and quality teams to ensure metadata supports data quality initiatives, including data lineage, data validation, and data integrity.
    • Establish processes to track and visualize data flow and lineage from source to destination to ensure full traceability.
  5. Metadata Accessibility and Utilization:

    • Ensure that metadata is easily accessible to the right users, enabling self-service data discovery and improving data-driven decision-making.
    • Promote metadata usage across the organization to improve data literacy and support analytics, reporting, and business intelligence activities.
  6. Tool and Technology Management:

    • Evaluate and implement metadata management tools and technologies, such as data catalogs, data lineage tools, and metadata repositories.
    • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies related to metadata management.
  7. Training and Education:

    • Train and educate internal teams on the importance of metadata, proper metadata management practices, and the tools used for metadata governance.
    • Foster a culture of data stewardship and accountability within the organization.

Qualifications:

  1. Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Technology, Data Management, Computer Science, or a related field.
    • 5-7 years of experience in metadata management, data governance, or data management roles, with a proven track record in managing metadata repositories and frameworks.
  2. Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency with metadata management tools (e.g., Alation, Collibra, Informatica, Apache Atlas).
    • Experience with data modeling, data warehousing, and data integration concepts.
    • Strong knowledge of databases, data structures, and data formats (e.g., SQL, NoSQL, JSON, XML).
    • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and big data technologies.
  3. Knowledge and Competencies:

    • Deep understanding of data governance, data quality, and metadata management best practices.
    • Knowledge of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and their impact on metadata.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  4. Soft Skills:

    • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
    • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
    • Ability to work cross-functionally and collaborate with both technical and business teams.
    • Detail-oriented and focused on accuracy and quality.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications in metadata management, data governance, or data management (e.g., CDMP, DAMA, DGSP).
  • Experience with data lineage and impact analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of machine learning and artificial intelligence concepts as they relate to metadata.
