Land Use Planner
Our Client is looking for a motivated and relationship-driven Land Use Planner to join the team.
In this role, you’ll manage and support a variety of planning projects, working closely with clients, local jurisdictions, and multidisciplinary teams. We’re looking for someone with strong technical expertise,
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Keys to Success:
- Manage and coordinate land use planning projects, including residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments.
- Research, interpret, and apply zoning codes, comprehensive plans, and other regulatory documents to project designs and entitlements.
- Prepare and submit planning applications, environmental documents, and supporting materials for agency review.
- Represent clients in meetings with city and county staff, community groups, and at public hearings.
- Coordinate with internal project teams (surveyors, engineers, architects) to ensure planning goals are integrated into project designs.
- Prepare site analysis reports, due diligence studies, and land development feasibility assessments.
- Monitor project timelines, budgets, and approval processes to keep clients informed and projects on track.
- Stay current with changes in local, state, and federal land use regulations and planning best practices.
- Participate in business development activities, including proposal writing and client relationship building.
- Mentor junior planners and support professional development within the planning team.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Land Use Planning, Civil Engineering, Land Scape Architecture, Geography, or a related field.
- 4+ years of professional planning experience, preferably in land development consulting.
- Strong understanding of land use regulations, zoning codes, and entitlement processes.
- Excellent writing, research, and public speaking skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work independently and collaboratively.
- Experience working with California local government agencies and jurisdictions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- AICP certification or ability to obtain within 12 months.
- 6+ years of planning experience with private development projects.
- Established relationships with local agencies and understanding of the entitlement landscape in Northern California.
- GIS proficiency and experience with land planning software or site analysis tools.
Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as various market and business considerations.
Wage range for this position is $80,000 - $104,000 per hour, depending on experience and placement into a Land Use Planner or Sr Land Use Planner.
Wage Range of $105,000 - $135,000 Project Manager - Sr Land Use Planner
