Purpose and Mission

The Trade Sales Representative is responsible for driving sales growth and profitability within an assigned regional territory. This role focuses on maintaining strong relationships with existing customers while identifying and closing new business opportunities. Success will be measured by meeting or exceeding monthly and annual sales objectives.

  • Develop and execute strategies to achieve budget goals in collaboration with leadership.

  • Make field-level service decisions to resolve customer issues in a professional, brand-positive manner.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Generate new and repeat sales through proactive outreach, technical expertise, and customer service.

  • Grow business within the paint and hardware distribution channel by increasing sales of existing products and introducing new customers.

  • Assess customer requirements and recommend tailored product solutions.

  • Present pricing, credit, and terms consistent with company policies and profitability standards.

  • Develop and track specific business goals within the territory, identifying prospects and consistently closing new opportunities.

  • Monitor progress against goals and adjust strategies to exceed targets.

  • Prepare annual revenue and expense budgets with guidance from management, and operate within approved limits.

  • Stay informed on industry competition to maximize territory potential.

  • Complete all required administrative tasks, including reports, expense submissions, and goal tracking.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education:

  • High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of coatings sales or related industry experience preferred.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to work independently and deliver measurable results.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Product literacy and technical aptitude.

  • Goal-oriented, self-motivated, and proactive.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related software tools.

  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and work ethic.

  • Familiarity with Open Book Management principles (or willingness to learn).

Physical and Mental Requirements

While performing the duties of this role, the employee may be required to:

  • Stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Use specific vision abilities, including close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, as well as depth perception and focus adjustment.
