Jr Design Engineer

Overview:

Are you a creative problem-solver who loves turning ideas into reality? We’re looking for a Mechanical Designer / Tooling Engineer. In this role, you’ll lead projects from initial design concepts to functional prototypes, working closely with cross-functional teams to bring new products to life. You’ll design and refine foundry tooling, create 3D models, and ensure everything is production-ready.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and model foundry tooling such as patterns, core boxes, and blow mold tooling.

  • Design and develop fixtures and machine components based on renderings or rough designs.

  • Collaborate with product development teams to finalize new product designs that align with manufacturing capabilities.

  • Use SolidWorks to create 3D models and detailed 2D drawings for manufacturing and maintenance.

  • Evaluate existing products and designs, offering ideas for improvements and enhancements.

  • Troubleshoot design and production issues to find practical solutions.

  • Work with vendors and contractors to bring designs to life.

  • Contribute to lean and continuous improvement initiatives in manufacturing.

  • Capture lessons learned from each project and incorporate them into future designs.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD; Fusion 360 experience is a plus.

  • Experience with 3D printing (FDM/SLA) and 3D scanning.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or 10+ years of experience designing foundry tooling.

  • 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Experience with manufacturing processes like sand casting, injection molding, or blow molding is a plus.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.

  • Experience working with materials like wood, metal, plastic, and electrical components.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver high-quality work under deadlines.

  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Understanding of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.

  • Familiarity with engineering and design best practices.

  • Ability to read and create detailed technical plans and blueprints.

  • Clear and effective written and spoken communication.

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, stoop, squat, climb ladders and stairs.

  • Lift and move materials up to 40 pounds.

  • Vision requirements include close and distance vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.

Work Environment:

  • Typical manufacturing environment with exposure to temperature variations and machining equipment.

  • Use of personal protective equipment is required: steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.
