DRAFTER/ TECHNICAL WRITER

Technical Writer Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Follows production schedule to ensure manuals completed on time.
  • Familiarizes with product technologies and production methods.
  • Gathers manufacturer's literature, drawings, and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service of equipment.
  • Studies drawings and schematics to develop sketches, drawings, parts lists, and operating procedures.
  • Organizes material and completes writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
  • Selects photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material.
  • Photograph equipment in various stages of assembly, test, and final / ready-to-ship layout in order to construct manuals. Photographs must be used together with Solid Works and / or AutoCAD drawings when applicable.
  • Reviews previously published materials of standard products for accuracy; recommends revisions and updates accordingly.
  • Create new FAT and SAT reports for all product lines as well as monitoring the completion of the documents by Test Technicians in order to maintain document integrity.
  • Support Customer Service Department for technical information typically found or related to an Operation Manual.

Draftsman Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Works with the design team for drawing preparation, Bill of Materials and BOM structure, work flows and other technical documentation.
  • Prepares technical drawings used by production workers to build industrial machinery to show technical details of the structure and components from all sides, with exact dimensions, the specific materials to be used, procedures to be followed, and other information as needed to carry out the job.
  • Makes engineering changes/improvements within CAD/SolidWorks environment and fills in technical details, working from drawings, rough sketches, specifications, and calculations provided by engineers. Makes use of technical handbooks, tables, calculators, and computer programs to obtain the information needed to complete the design.
  • Calculates the quantity and quality of materials needed and prepares bills of material, cutting lists and other documentation necessary for ordering of components and raw materials.
  • Prepares general assembly drawings for customer approval where required and processes engineering change requests in a timely manner.
  • Provides product support on the manufacturing floor and supports operational excellence initiatives such as lean manufacturing.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (BA) from an accredited four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A technical or mechanical background with strong electrical engineering experience is required.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, schematics and mechanical drawings or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MS Office software. Ability to use a digital camera to take photographs and upload and edit them for publications. Experience editing with Adobe Photoshop is required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: This job requires no certificates, licenses, or registrations.

Other Qualifications: This involves researching each product in all electrical and mechanical aspects to understand the complete functionality of the chamber. Communication and coordination of information with the various departments in each of the divisions is paramount. Digital photography work and some mechanical drawing manipulation are essential to portray the functions and features of chambers in the manuals.
