Field Service Engineer
Job Purpose
Installs and repairs industrial heat treating equipment, including aluminum heat treatment, solution heat treat & aging, general heat treat furnaces (Thermal Process), process atmospheres, CAB Brazing and aluminum reverb melting & holding systems.
Duties and Responsibilities
- In field installations: set up, adjust, troubleshoot, revise systems and correct problems which develop during the erection, operation and repair of heat processing equipment.
- Consults with customer or supervisor to plan layout of equipment.
- Studies blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to determine installation procedures.
- Installs or oversees installation of equipment according to specifications.
- Operates system to demonstrate equipment and to analyze malfunctions.
- Interprets maintenance manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams, and repairs equipment, utilizing knowledge of electronics and using standard test instruments and hand tools.
- Instructs and directs workers in servicing and repairing equipment.
- Consults with engineering personnel to resolve problems in system operation and maintenance.
- May instruct workers in mechanical and electronic theory.
- May supervise workers in testing, tuning, and adjusting equipment to obtain optimum operating performance.
- May advise management regarding customer satisfaction, product performance, and suggestions for product improvements.
- Perform troubleshooting and revisions of relay and instrumentation circuitry.
- Understand atmosphere systems and processes. Analyze, troubleshoot and correct problems.
- Perform set up and adjustments of systems analyze deficiencies and correct them.
- Determine and initiate the best way to install and start up jobs.
- Perform above responsibilities with limited assistance from the Engineering Department.
- Promote safe, efficient equipment and operations.
- Monitor, control and report of field costs.
- Ensure that all warning signs are in place at installation.
- Ensure workers do not enter confined spaces without completing proper permitting requirements.
- Perform other work related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- College Degree in engineering or equivalent Military/Trade school training or experience.
- Experience in field service installation/troubleshooting.
- Must have a high level of interpersonal and communication skills to work across functional and organizational lines.
- Must have superior customer-oriented attitude, verbal and written skills.
- Must possess broad knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Proficiency with Personal Computers and software applications.
- Must be able to component level troubleshoot and repair various heat treating systems.
- Must be able to prioritize and handle many tasks simultaneously and work with minimal supervision.
- Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others.
- Must be flexible and able to work in a fast paced environment.
- Must be detail-oriented.
Environmental Considerations
- In the course of the work there is a routine need for bending and lifting (20–50pounds).
- Manipulating heavier equipment with assistance.
- Extensive travel in the USA and Europe, India, China and other places (by air) will be required often outside normal business hours. Travel could be up to 90% of time.
Compensation: $75,000.00
