Field Service Tech - furnace OEM

Reporting to the Aftermarket Division Manager, the Senior Field Service Technician is responsible for inspecting and servicing the company’s and other manufacturer’s equipment assuring quality product performance. Address and resolve questions and issues regarding products of various types with guidance, as necessary. Capable of servicing and understanding all related industry equipment with high levels of complexity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible to provide the highest level of support and handling the most difficult or advanced problems.
  • Maintain technical service expertise to assist in the research and development of solutions to new or unknown problems.
  • Demonstrate high level electrical wiring and controls knowledge and possess a broad mechanical understanding and background.
  • Electrical: 3 phase wiring, control wiring, understanding of: limit switches, pressure and flow sensors and transducers, proximity switches, level sensors, trouble-shooting of single and 3 phase wiring, set-up of temperature controller, set-up of variable frequency drives, use basic volt/amp/ohm meters.
  • Mechanical: able to read and understand blueprints and schematics, basic of alignment of conveyor shafts, basic of bearing installation, alignment and lubrication, tensioning and aligning v-belt and chain drives, know how to use: basic power and hand tools.
  • Responsible for installing, inspecting and starting-up company manufactured equipment at customer sites according to specifications and drawings.
  • Responsible for servicing all company products at customer sites; testing, troubleshooting, and adjusting as needed.
  • Use various gauges, meters, and electrical testing equipment to check specification.
  • Communicate with appropriate company employees regarding product issues to facilitate problem resolution.
  • Complete detailed service reports and all required records and documentation for customers and for the company.
  • Remain technically competent and keep current in new developments within the industry.
  • Assist in cross training existing employees and new hires.
  • Make recommendations regarding safe working methods.
  • Follow all clean-up and housekeeping procedures.
  • Follow and comply with all safety standards and sanitation regulations.
  • Follow all work related rules, regulations and policies.
  • Promptly respond to inquiries to support individual, team and company success.
  • Continuous participation and engagement in process improvement strategies.
  • Provide back-up for other positions in the department as assigned.
  • Perform various duties as requested by management.

Essential Job Requirements:

  • Working Conditions: Regularly working near moving mechanical parts. Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electric shock and vibration. Noise level in certain work environments can be loud at times. Must know how to use and wear required provided personal protective equipment (PPE) depending on environment and working conditions.
  • Driving & Travel Requirements: Must maintain a valid state driver’s license, have access to reliable transportation and carry the state minimum required auto insurance. Must be able to drive company vehicles and transport materials as required. Required to travel the majority of time which may include international travel. Must maintain an up-to-date passport
  • Analytical Aptitude: The ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents such as blueprints, schematics, customer specifications, warranties, company standards, operating maintenance instructions, routings, work orders, engineering specifications and safety regulations.
  • Technology: Proficient with basic software and smartphone technology including email, internet, and calendaring applications and able to functionally use emerging technologies to support business needs. Understanding of controllers and drives including programming these devices and working with PLC and HMI’s.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Must have the ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as project and customer specifications, professional codes and standards and engineering drawings.
  • Solid understanding of industrial controls and electrical schematics.
  • Ability to assess situations to determine the importance, urgency and risks and make clear, timely decisions that are in the best interest of the department and the organization. Possess the ability to see an issue or situation from different points of view.
  • Ability to listen attentively, ask questions ensuring clear expectations, follow directions and provide prompt continuous follow-up.
  • Deliver pleasant, timely and responsive interactions with customers (internal and external).
  • Highly motivated with a strong work ethic and the ability to prioritize and accomplish tasks with minimal supervision.

Education and Experience:

  • 10+ years field experience, minimum 2 year technical degree at an accredited institution, or a combination of both education and experience.
