Applied Statistician (Contract)

Overview

Seeking an Applied Statistician to design and evaluate field experiments using sensor data to detect early signs of structural degradation in infrastructure assets. This role focuses on building rigorous statistical frameworks to validate whether measurable signals can predict asset condition and inform product decisions.

Responsibilities

• Design statistically sound field experiments (sample size, controls, duration, success criteria)
• Define data collection requirements (sampling frequency, quality standards)
• Develop models to analyze sensor data (regression, time-series, signal detection)
• Identify confounding variables and ensure experimental rigor
• Evaluate predictive performance (sensitivity, specificity, false positives)
• Translate findings into clear recommendations for decision-making
• Deliver experiment plans, analysis frameworks, and final reports

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Statistics, Data Science, Engineering, or related field
• Experience designing real-world experiments with sensor or physical system data
• Strong expertise in statistical modeling and time-series analysis
• Ability to translate complex analysis into actionable insights

Preferred

• Experience with IoT, infrastructure, or environmental data
• Field experiments or validation studies
• Proficiency in Python or R
