Position: Safety Director

Location: Commerce City, Colorado

 

Summary

The Safety Director will support a rapidly-growing private company in the commercial construction space. This role is responsible for the full scope of effective safety operations for the company’s multiple divisions from creating safety documentation and leading trainings to doing site visits for proactive enforcement of policies. A successful Candidate will be highly-organized, extremely detail-oriented, self-motivated, personable but firm when needed and demonstrate the ability to respond effectively to changing workloads and priorities. This individual must communicate well in both English and Spanish and manage multiple assignments simultaneously.

 

Job Responsibilities and Functions

  • Coordination of general contractor required documents
  • Review of contracts and documents related to safety deliverables for clients
  • Maintain the company safety manual and update on a consistent basis
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules
  • Identify opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems
  • Work closely with Human Resources for workplace injuries and workman’s comp reporting and guidance
  • Manage the completion of JHA’s on jobsites / PTP Creation and review daily activities before the start of work
  • Stops operations and activities that could harm employees or equipment
  • Create and implement training (OSHA, CPR, Equipment, Rigging, etc.)
  • Complete effective and engaging safety meetings with each crew prior to starting work
  • Develop job-specific safety plans, silica exposure controls, confined safe plan, etc.
  • Conduct weekly job audits
  • Be able to create measurables with collected data to further train and educate staff
  • Provide thorough feedback of positives and areas for improvements on each job site
  • Provide other members of leadership with any safety concerns
  • Design a training program that delivers a competent safety tradesman
  • Provide consistent trainings to help meet business needs and employee certifications (Fall protection, OSHA 10/30, CPR, Equipment and Tool care)
  • Continually develop content and training materials to attract and retain employees
  • Facilitate the trainings and provide look-ahead trainings schedules three months in advance
  • Actively involve leaders in the needs of being able to facilitate trainings for staff
  • Track attendance, certification, and compliance documentation for all training events
  • Develop and maintain outstanding relationships with field crews
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Experience:

  • Extensive knowledge of best practice safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, OSHA 500 certification is ideal
  • Bilingual proficiency (English and Spanish) is preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to conduct trainings
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum of five years of experience in a safety management position in a construction or related industry
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and acceptable MVR as driving company vehicles is required
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Experience working with leading full-scope safety programs with demonstrable outcomes

 

Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background screening, which includes a drug test (position is subject to ongoing drug testing as a term of continued employment), criminal background check, and motor vehicle record check
  • Valid driver’s license, acceptable motor vehicle report, and good driving habits
  • Ability to legally work in the US

Additional Information

Compensation:

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 annually in this location. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amount listed above.

Location:

This position is NOT available for remote work. Candidates currently residing in locations outside of daily commuting distance will be considered, however, no relocation or travel assistance will be provided by the Company for this position.

Work Environment:

This position operates mainly in an office environment. This entails working inside in an office space wherein employee may be provided a public work station (cubicle) or private office. Routinely, this role will require field visits where exposure to extreme weather conditions, fumes, airborne particles, vibrations, dust, electrical charges and other unforeseen exposures may be encountered.

Physical Demands:

In the performance of the duties and responsibilities of this job, the employee is required to have visual acuity to operate a motor vehicle and view a computer terminal for prolonged periods of time. While at work sites, the employee will be expected to walk and stand. Individual might be asked to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and/or crawl. Individual might be required to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. in the performance of this position.

Position Type and Working Hours:

This is a full-time position. Typical work hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday - Friday. Employee must be capable and willing to work overtime as required and to participate in occasional meetings, events, seminars, conferences, or other activities outside of typical work hours. Employees responsible for project operations are expected to monitor and, in some cases, respond to emails, calls, or texts outside of business hours.

Travel:

Routine travel to work site locations is expected. Overnight stays may be required from time to time for training, seminars, field visits, or visits to Client locations.
