JOB TITLE: Vehicle Sales Manager

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

 

  1. To assist the General Manager in formulating new car sales policy.
  2. To maximize sales and profitability through satisfaction and retention of customers to meet sales forecasts.
  3. To develop the necessary sales organization to meet sales and profitability objectives.
  4. To ensure optimum stock of cars on premises and/or on order.
  5. To ensure cost control to budget within department.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

 

  1. Matric/Standard 10/Grade 12 education with at least 8 years proven track record of vehicle sales as a sales person (new and used) with sales management and marketing skills, knowledge and experience.
  2. Ability to manage and administer a department, to provide organization, systems and leadership.
  3. Up-to-date knowledge of vehicle legislation and of trade practices.
  4. Able to motivate a sales team to achieve objectives.
  5. Sales qualification, technical qualification an added advantage.

 

 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. To establish the staffing levels required to achieve departmental objectives.
  2. To select, hire, train and develop sales department staff.
  3. To identify departmental training needs in conjunction with training staff.
  4. To ensure resultant training programmes are completed and adequate records maintained.
  5. Establish and administer “in-dealership” training as required, to cater for new model launches.
  6. Operate staff performance and appraisal systems and ensure action taken on results.
  7. Establish and review sales basic pay and incentive schemes.
  8. Ensure all administrative functions, returns, record keeping and clerical operations are carried out at the appropriate time and kept up to date.
  9. Review with General Manager all activities and reporting systems within the department.

    10.Ensure that adequate safety and security procedures exist and are operated.

    11.Monitor cleaning of new car stock.

    12.Monitor cleanliness of showroom, forecourt and other sales related areas.

    13.Maintain good liaison with other managers.

    14.Advise General Manager and all other managers on sales matters.

    15.Advise subordinates on appropriate sales related matters.

    16.Maintain direct liaison with manufacturer’s representatives and all other contacts.

    17.Propose special sales promotions as appropriate.

    18.Ensure adequate stocks of car and product display material is available.

    19.Formulate marketing plan, initiate and conduct new car launches and promotions.

    20.Formulate marketing plan and initiate car sales promotions.

    21.Analyse local customer/car preference statistics and compare with new car forecasts, acting on any anomalies detected.

    22.Handle customer complaints and ensure corrective action is taken.

    23.Maintain record of customer complaints or congratulations for analysis and use as required.

    24.Review all pricing policies, discounts and “trade-in” dealing to maintain dealership profitability.

    25.Monitor costs and general condition of demonstrator fleet.

    26.Monitor sales department financial performance weekly.

    27.Monitor credit and finance commission income to ensure budget requirements are met.

    28.Monitor outstanding debtor situation and take appropriate action.

    29.Ensure that all trading and stockholding of vehicles is within allocated floor plan facilities.
