Controller for Family Office (REMOTE Opportunity)

J Harlan Group is currently conducting a search for an experienced and highly motivated Controller/Senior Accountant for a Family Office.

The Family Office Controller will be a “hands-on” individual contributor responsible for the accounting and reporting for various domestic and international investments in private and public companies, funds, and vehicles.

The role will be based out of the firm’s NYC office.

Responsibilities:

Hold the primary responsibility for the financial oversight and policies of the family office including establishment of strong fiscal controls, preparation of financial reports, management of financial assets and cash, and banking relationships and tax related matters.

Manage day-to-day financial needs for the office and for family members.

  • Supporting the preparation of internal reporting and assist in the analysis of new and ongoing personal investments
  • Working with the general ledger, overseeing the payment of invoices, reconciling accounts, creating reporting packages, coordinating, and providing information for tax providers, and assisting with other financial activities as needed.

Experience:

  • 5+ years’ experience of senior level “hands-on” accounting experience - Background in Family Office, Investments or Professional Services is a plus.
  • Proficient at working with all aspect of financial accounting.
  • Ability to work in an organized, efficient manner with a high-level of accuracy, attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Self-starter, who will constantly look for better ways to operate and improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Experience interacting with private equity and complex investments. Experience with investment aggregation and reporting systems is a plus.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills in both English and Spanish, for interacting with family members, office staff, family businesses, advisors, and vendors.
  • A track record of integrity, honesty, confidentiality, loyalty, and discretion.

Education:

  • BA/BS degree required in accounting or finance, CPA and/or MBA is a plus.
