J Harlan Group is currently conducting a search for a Site Reliability engineer (SRE) at a prominent Global Investment firm in NYC.An individual with a strong commitment to building and maintaining scalable and creative core infrastructure technology solutions in support of a global investment organization.

Our client seeks a seasoned Site Reliability Engineer to join its Quantitative Strategies Systems team to provide tier-2 operational support for the firm’s IT Infrastructure. The environment includes an interdependent combination of Linux and Windows servers, Windows desktops, mobile devices, and high-performance data and storage networks.

Principal Responsibilities:

The engineer will be responsible for developing and implementing new systems and services in the areas of infrastructure monitoring, configuration management, and automation. Additional responsibilities include upgrading and/or re-designing existing infrastructure for improved performance and stability.

The firm views Technology as a distinct commercial advantage - enabling a host of opportunities that differentiate them from their competitors.The SRE will think about bigger picture technological solutions and look for generic abstractions for day to day problems.

The successful candidate will be capable of collaborating with the IT team on the development and deployment of systems and solutions. The successful candidate must be able to take ownership of multiple tasks and measure the work on those tasks against the work of the group to complete larger tasks successfully with a minimum of daily supervision.

The ideal candidate would have the following background:

  • The ideal candidate should have a degree in computer science (or another technical discipline) or comparable work experience.
  • Strong understanding of Windows and/or Linux OS and networking fundamentals, experience with low-level debugging (such as process and packet tracing), strong programming and scripting ability, and excellent communication skills.
  • This individual must be comfortable supporting applications and services in both Linux and Windows environments.
  • Experience with enterprise storage and/or market data networks is also desirable.
  • Outstanding communication skills are imperative, as the role will entail significant interaction with different departments in the firm.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to articulate complex ideas and solutions to management
  • Self-motivation with the ability to work independently and as a strong team player
