J Harlan Group is currently conducting a search for an experienced and highly motivated Fund Accountant at a prominent NYC Private Equity - Investment Manager.

An exciting opportunity reporting directly to the CFO of this fast growing and dynamic investment organization that is experiencing exceptional growth! The Fund Accountant will be responsible for supporting portfolio/partnership fund accounting across the funds and firm. This position requires an ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where attention to detail, analytical skills and strong communication skills are essential.

This individual will be a significant contributor in enabling their vision and helping the organization to grow and improve their businesses. To be successful in this role you must be highly detail oriented and organized, able to meet assigned deadlines and have first class communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Primary responsibility is to prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Record monthly journal entries and prepare bank reconciliations
  • Calculate and forecast performance fees
  • Partnership allocations
  • Maintain highly sensitive information confidential
  • Facilitate and complete monthly close procedures
  • Analyze revenues and expenses to ensure they are recorded appropriately on a monthly basis
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations
  • Assist with bank covenants
  • Assist with tax administration
  • Maintain the books and records of various entities
  • Other projects as assigned

The ideal candidate would have a background including:

  • 4+ years of accounting/finance experience including relevant portfolio / fund accounting experience, with preference given to experience at a private equity, hedge fund manager, fund administrator or public accounting organization
  • A strong understanding of accounting theory and practice
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel

Education:

  • Strong academic record and a bachelor’s or higher degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
