J Harlan Group is currently conducting a search for a Java Software Engineer at a global investment bank in Houston to join a talented global technology team focused on high quality and consistent delivery to support the firm in meeting their business objectives.

An excellent opportunity for a software engineer with a background in Java to join the firm’s Houston technology team as a Java DevOps Engineer.

Your drive for improvement will add value as you provide bespoke problem solving, troubleshooting, incident management and implementation of tactical solutions.

The Java DevOps Engineer will be a significant contributor in enabling their vision and helping the organization to grow and improve their investment business.

Responsibilities:

As a developer in their team, you will gain exposure to various state of the art technologies and will also gain exposure to strategic technology initiatives including creating new applications on the Public Cloud and integrating our different systems.

This role will comprise design, development, testing (unit & automation), implementation and maintenance of software solutions with a focus on quality and DevOps principles.

You will have a diverse range of full stack development opportunities including new web services and APIs in Java and creating new applications on the Public Cloud. In addition, you will help with production support, including coordinating the resolution of high severity incidents.

The ideal candidate would have a background including proven problem-solving, software development / DevOps expertise in Java and an interest in financial markets.

• Programming experience in Java, SQL, AWS Cloud and Development Tools
• A strong computer science and technical background including:
  • Spring and Spring Boot
  • Using and developing RESTful APIs using JAX-RS, JSON
  • UNIX or Python scripting
  • Handling XML using tools and libraries such as XSLT and JAXB
  • RDMS, SQL and JPA
  • Cloud solutions (AWS)
  • Microservices architecture
  • Data structures, design patterns and algorithms
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, including a demonstrable ability in troubleshooting and root cause analysis
• Experience with lively, organic, highly collaborative environments
• Ability to craft creative and practical solutions to problems and express those solutions in code.
• Must be an entrepreneurial, self-motivated, open-minded, conceptual, intelligent, bright individual who is intellectually honest & open to debate with excellent synthesis abilities.
• Strong desire to contribute and build a business – not just solve novel problems.
  

Required Education:

• Strong academic record and a BA/BS degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related educational background
