J Harlan Group is currently conducting a search for a Data Developer - Architect at a prominent NYC Private Equity organization.

An exciting opportunity to join the firm’s Data Strategy & Analytics Technology team designing and developing the firm’s Data Layer infrastructure as part of the firm’s overall Data Strategy for structured, semi structured, and unstructured data

The Data Developer Architect will be a significant contributor in enabling their vision and helping the organization to grow and improve their businesses.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for design of Data Layer as part of Data Strategy for structured, semi structured and unstructured data
  • Design, develop and maintain Data Lake that can store, compute and query relational data, columnar data, and unstructured blobs
  • Enhance and maintain database design for Master Data Management using normalization models
  • Enhance and maintain database design for Reporting Data Layer using Star Schema
  • Responsible for all development of SQL and NOSQL scripts, tables, View, stored procedures, extended functions in .Net/python etc. in data layer
  • Develop data processes using control flow and data flow components in SSIS and/or Talend
  • Perform the role of a data steward, manage data design sessions for all applications, and maintain centralized data dictionary
  • Define standards, configurations, and operational/administration guidelines for data layer
  • Collaborate with team members in overall data application delivery
  • Provide Level 3 support for all data applications, especially for data layer

The ideal candidate would have a background and a deep passion for working with data and developing software to address data challenges

Required Experience:

  • Technologist with a strong background in the architecture, design, and development of the Data Layer infrastructure
  • At least 6-8 years of experience working in the Finance industry
  • Experience and competency with data development tools like SQL Server, Snowflake, and Azure data services like SQL Database or SQL Data Warehouse
  • Proficient in data design methodologies for relational, columnar, analytical, semi-structured and unstructured data
  • Experience in working on integration tools like SSIS, Azure integration services and/or Talend
  • Expertise in performance tuning databases and queries, using query plans to tune queries, indexing, partitions etc.
  • Exposure to BI & Reporting tools like Tableau and SSRS
  • Ability to work in an open collaborative and highly charged environment.
  • Experience working in a dynamic, fast-paced, Agile team environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to establish and maintain a close working relationship’s
  • Confident communicator
  • Enthusiasm for learning & results oriented
  • Strong desire to contribute and build a business – not just solve novel problems.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of clients and technologists to develop and implement technology in support of a dynamically growing Private Equity platform

Required Education:

  • Strong academic record and a BA/BS degree with high mathematical and computing content (e.g. Computer Science or Engineering)
