J Harlan Group is currently conducting a search for a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) – Treasury Technology at a Global NYC Hedge Fund to join their talented global Treasury Technology team partnering closely with the Treasury team responsible for financing assets traded across the organization. The team focuses primarily on three factors: building a convex optimization across all the different financing products, execution and automation for the Treasury trading desks (for e.g. repo, stock borrow), and a financing risk reporting platform.

The Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) will be a significant contributor in enabling their vision and helping the organization to grow and improve their business.

The Site Reliability Engineers (SRE) will work to bring the practices of SRE to the financial trading field, bringing innovation and cutting-edge technology to reduce complexity and improve performance. SRE’s are responsible for taking applications to production, providing early support for applications in development, and ensuring crisp application function throughout its lifetime. SRE’s will work closely with Treasury application development teams on automation, application refactor, and in certain cases there will be movement between the SRE team and app dev team to allow for maximum cross-pollination.

This role will primarily involve working with a cohesive team of engineers and developers that support the firms Treasury business. For this specific role, their initial goals are to migrate from semi-manual deployments and manual server allocation to a Kubernetes-based fully automated deployment and re-architect our services to run hot-hot in multiple data centers.

In this role you will have the opportunity to:

  • SRE’s will have a deep understanding of how applications function and are able to change applications for production quality
  • Design and deploy a new generation of production infrastructure.
  • Ensure the reliability, availability, and performance of applications
  • Own the automation of repetitive tasks and resolution of systematic issues
  • Identify and deliver engineering solutions for issues based on root cause analysis
  • Own incident management and resolution
  • Lead by evangelizing the SRE mindset to other teams
  • Provide support and ensure applications are production ready

The ideal candidate would have a background including:

  • Strong background in computer science fundamentals, data structures, algorithms, distributed systems
  • Fully proficient in at least one modern structured programming language – python a plus
  • Comfortable with a range of current software development tools and practices (testing, source control, build systems, CI/CD etc.)
  • A basic working understanding of TCP/IP networking, LAN and WAN as well as Linux networking
  • Ability to work in high demand environments, ability to adjust to rapidly changing requirements.
  • Good understanding of SDLC and Change Management
  • SQL and database experience a strong plus.
  • Web UI experience (e.g., knows JavaScript, CSS and similar web languages) a plus.
  • experience with building and managing highly reliable large-scale systems a plus

  • A passion for learning, adapting to changing requirements and technology and inventing new approaches to hard problems

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science or an allied field.
