J Harlan Group is currently conducting a search for a Data Engineer at a prominent Asset Manager in their Baltimore office.

The Data Engineer is at the forefront of innovation as they embark on building a global data platform fueling applications and the investment decision making process. This is a very young team, enabling you to make an impact from the onset. The Data engineer will be responsible for building specialized ETL pipelines which are used by the Global Fixed Income Investments team

Principal Responsibilities:

The Data engineer will be responsible for building specialized ETL pipelines which are used by the Global Fixed Income Investments team

  • Drive software components to delivery
  • Build large scale distributed computing programs to generate insightful analytics and present results in user-friendly visualization
  • Lead multi-functional initiatives of notable risk; uses sophisticated analytical thought to identify innovative solutions
  • Operate as a hands-on technologist, delivers within a team as an individual developer

The ideal candidate would have a background and a deep passion for working with data and developing software to address data processing challenges

Required Experience:

  • Advanced Degree in one or more of the following disciplines: Computer Science, Mathematics or Financial Engineering
  • Progressive software engineering experience with 5+ years related to data engineering, microservices, frameworks and/or platform development with Experience with front office software development with an Asset Management, Hedge fund or Investment Ban
  • Expert level of Proficiency in Python
  • Experience designing and delivering frameworks, focused on data pipelines, data catalogs, data distribution
  • Experience building containerized applications and deploying to public or private clouds, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or similar providers.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and thrive in a fast-paced team environment
