J Harlan Group is currently conducting a search for a Software Engineer at a global investment bank to join a talented global technology team focused on high quality and consistent delivery to support the firm in meeting their business objectives.

An excellent opportunity for a software engineer with a background in Python and/or C++ to join the firm’s Global Risk Management Technology team in New York.

In this role, you’ll work side-by-side with their front office businesses and interact with key stakeholders. They’ll be looking for you to bring proven problem-solving skills, software development expertise and an avid interest in financial markets.

As a Software Engineer on the Risk Management Technology team, you will gain exposure to various state of the art technologies and will also gain exposure to strategic technology initiatives including creating new applications on the Public Cloud.

The Senior Java Software Engineer will be a significant contributor in enabling their vision and helping the organization to grow and improve their investment business.

Responsibilities:

Your key responsibilities will be to further develop the core risk management systems, specifically how it applies to fixed income and commodity financial products.

  • Identifying opportunities to enhance their Front Office risk management offering, taking ownership from inception to delivery.
  • Building well-engineered, reusable, and scalable platforms that underpin the growth and agility of the business.
  • Supporting a fast-paced trading environment, working directly with senior technology and finance professionals across our global business.
  • Gaining financial markets expertise, focusing on the agriculture business with close links to the energy and metals sectors.
  • You will work with Python, C++, SQL/NoSQL databases and AWS

The ideal candidate would have a background including proven problem-solving, software development expertise in Object-Oriented Programming and an interest in financial markets.

  • Proficiency in Object Oriented Programming in Python and or C++
  • Strong knowledge of object-oriented analysis and common design patterns.
  • Hands-on experience of standard software development tools (source control, CI/CD, testing practices)

It would be a bonus if you’re familiar with:

  • The Front Office environment and financial products
  • Experience working in a Linux development environment.
  • Cloud technologies
  • Experience of the full project lifecycle (requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, version control).

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, including a demonstrable ability in troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Experience with lively, organic, highly collaborative environments

Required Education:

  • Strong academic record and a BA/BS degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related educational background

Salary range for this position: $108,000 - $192,500/Yr. Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, peer and market data, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. The successful candidate may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive compensation award.
