The Principal Architect for our Front Office Investments (FOI) Technology group will design and develop IT architecture (integrated process, applications, data, and technology) solutions to business problems in alignment with the enterprise architecture direction and standards. As a member of the firm’s Architecture Council, influences/shapes architecture strategy for the enterprise, ensuring that the needs of their respective business domain are fully represented. Performs technical planning, architecture development, and modification of specifications. Develops specifications for new products/services, applications, and service offerings. Assesses the compatibility and integration of products/services proposed as standards to ensure an integrated architecture across interdependent technologies.

  • Regarded as the expert in their job discipline within the Front Office Investment business unit (FOI)
  • Solves unique problems that have a broad impact on the business or organization function
  • Contributes to the development of disciplinary strategy within FOI; source of authoritative advice on best courses of action in area of expertise

Ensures the execution of the agreed-upon enterprise architecture strategy within FOI Tech by working with their colleagues and business partners to successfully execute key change programs driven by the Enterprise Architecture function (e.g., cloud adoption, migration to a strategic build-release-deploy pipeline, etc.). Regarded as an influential technologist within the broader firm technology division; regularly consulted for input on large, strategic programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understands and advocates architecture principles and articulates value proposition of architecture to business and technology partners
  • Develops architectural strategy for a given domain and develops/implements the mechanisms necessary to ensure that the strategy is realized
  • May chair and manage an architecture review board.
  • Ensures decisions around architecture are made and deviations from standards are properly identified, addressed, and communicated - Escalates as necessary
  • Ensures that Architects follow all aspects of the Enterprise Architecture process from initiation to closure
  • Provides guidance to the Senior Architects in the early planning stage around the different solution patterns that may be appropriate for this specific solution
  • Ensures that standards set by Data, Security, Infrastructure, Platform and other architecture domains are followed when designing solutions
  • Represents the firm’s architecture and strategy at internal and external forums
  • Stays abreast of industry trends, is active in staying knowledgeable to help the firm take advantage of new technologies
  • Operates as a hands-on architecture practitioner, delivers within a team as an individual architect
  • Decomposes the most complex problems into discrete work units
  • Balances strategic and pragmatic concerns when solving complex or multifaceted problems
  • Makes sound and objective decisions with limited facts or resources
  • Displays understanding of theoretical concepts
  • Identifies non-obvious relationships and anomalies often overlooked by others
  • Identifies several potential solutions to a problem by identifying and evaluating the various options developed and selects the most effective solution
  • Capable of leading large software development projects in terms of team size, technical complexity, and/or organizational complexity
  • Holds associates and teams accountable for adhering to practices and policies
  • Able to produce results through individuals and teams where there is no direct management oversight of resources
  • Able to overcome differences of opinion and drive team alignment around a specific goal or solution

The ideal candidate would have a background:

  • 10+ years of relevant architecture experience preferably within financial services/investment management/asset management
  • Possesses extensive knowledge of current best practices in Software Development and DevOps
  • Is the “expert” in a specific architecture discipline or domain within the firm and potentially across the industry
  • Designs and architectures show consideration for the operational aspects of a system, long-term support ability, maintenance, etc. - Extends the half-life of software
  • Sets the expectations for development practices and ensures they are known and adhered to within the area
  • Creates, validates technology standards, best practices, and technical biases
  • Demonstrates mastery of architectural processes
  • Demonstrates mastery of Agile methodologies and processes
  • Innovates and leads explorations into new areas and new technologies within the company but also with other industry leaders

Required Education:

  • Strong academic record and a BA/BS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
