J Harlan Group is currently conducting a search for an experienced and highly motivated Private Credit Associate – Middle Market Direct Lending at a prominent NYC Private Credit Investment Manager. Seeking to add an investment professional to an emerging platform focused on Special Situations, Sponsored, and Growth direct lending opportunities

An exciting opportunity to be a key part of the growth of the firm, funds and team and will work closely with senior members of the firm to evaluate and execute investments within numerous asset classes and across the capital structure.

This individual will be a significant contributor in enabling their vision and helping the organization to grow and improve their businesses. To be successful in this role you must be highly detail oriented and organized, able to meet assigned deadlines and have first class communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support sourcing and initial screening of direct and syndicated loan investments
  • Monitor market activity through interactions with investment banks, restructuring advisors, private equity sponsors, legal counsel, and other industry professionals
  • Provide investment and transaction structuring analysis
  • Manage investment due diligence and documentation process, including engagement of third-party advisors and legal counsel
  • Prepare and present investment opportunities to the firm’s Investment Committee
  • Corporate financial modeling (debt and equity) and asset valuation
  • Qualitative and quantitative business, financial, and other due diligence in conjunction with the deal team and third-party advisors, agents, accountants (sector/operating experts)
  • Analyze transaction structures based on input from senior team
  • Preparing internal materials, including Investment Memorandums and transaction analysis for presentation to Investment Committee
  • Monitoring and supporting investment assets and portfolio companies
  • Monitor portfolio investments and provide detailed performance updates

The ideal candidate would have a background including:

  • 2-5+ years of relevant private credit, investment management or investment banking – transaction execution experience (Private Equity, Credit or M&A experience a plus)
  • Knowledge of credit/direct lending a plus
  • Financial analysis skills: Ability to analyze financial models, cash flow models, securitization models, valuation analysis, and financial statements
  • Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Strong Excel skills required
  • Extremely detail oriented
  • Collaborative team player who is resourceful, proactive, and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment

Education:

  • Strong academic record and a bachelor’s or higher degree

SALARY RANGE: - Expected base salary for this position is between $150,000 and $175,000. However, base pay if hired will be determined commensurate with experience and is only a part of the total compensation package which includes eligibility for a discretionary bonus and a robust benefits package
