J Harlan Group is currently conducting a search for a Vice President Data Architect – Technology & Data at a prominent Global Investment Firm in NYC.

My client’s Technology & Data leadership team is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Architect to join their team. The role is based in our NY office. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in modern data architecture, with proficiency in Snowflake, Coalesce, Fivetran, and related technologies. This individual will play a key role in designing, implementing, and optimizing data solutions that support their organization's strategic objectives. The role is based in our NY office.

The Technology & Data department is responsible for the delivery of enterprise technology, data and infrastructure services for the Global Investment firm. The team is a trusted advisor and partner to the business and is constantly innovating and leveraging best practices in support of the firm’s continued growth.

Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, and efficient data pipelines to extract, transform, and load (ELT/ETL) data from various sources into our data warehouse or data lake.
  • Collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and design data models that facilitate efficient data storage, retrieval, and analysis. Implement and optimize dimensional models such as star schema and snowflake schema.
  • Integrate data from diverse sources including relational databases, APIs, flat files, and streaming data sources. Ensure data consistency, integrity, and quality throughout the integration process.
  • Develop and implement data transformation processes to clean, enrich, and aggregate raw data into formats suitable for downstream analytics and reporting. Utilize modern data stack like Snowflake, Fivetran, Coalesce.io to do data transformation.
  • Implement data quality checks, validations, and monitoring mechanisms to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency. Develop and maintain data quality rules, standards, and metrics to measure and improve data quality over time.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and develop scalable data architecture solutions, leveraging methodologies such as Medallion architecture, star schema etc to ensure flexibility, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Establish and help maintain metadata repositories and data dictionaries to document data structures, transformations, and lineage across the organization, supporting effective data governance and data lineage tracing.
  • Document data pipelines, data models, and data transformation processes. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data analysts, data scientists, software engineers, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver solutions that meet business needs.
  • Provide technical guidance to cross-functional teams on data architecture best practices and data management techniques.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, tools, and trends in data architecture, data management, and recommend innovative solutions to enhance organizational capabilities and effectiveness.

The ideal candidate would have a background:

  1. Minimum of 7 years of experience in data architecture/engineering, with a proven track record of designing and implementing modern data solutions.
  2. Strong proficiency in Snowflake.
  3. Experience in ELT/ETL technologies like DBT, Coalesce, Fivetran, Python, and/or other relevant technologies.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of best practices in authoring data pipelines with the modern data stack, including utilizing Snowflake Tasks, Streams, and Dynamic Tables to facilitate efficient data extraction, loading and transformation.
  5. In-depth knowledge of data modeling and architecture techniques like fact-dimensional modeling, data vault modeling, data mesh architecture etc.
  6. Experience working in the financial services industry required, with knowledge of asset management sector strongly preferred.
  7. Understanding of cloud computing platforms, with experience in platforms such as Azure considered advantageous.
  8. Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  9. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  10. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to forge relationships resulting in successful partnerships

    • Required Education:

    • Strong academic record and a BA/BS or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field.

    SALARY RANGE: - Expected base salary for this position is between $175,000 and $250,000 for candidates with a strong background in modern data architecture, with proficiency in Snowflake, Coalesce, Fivetran and related technologies.. However, base pay if hired will be determined commensurate with experience and is only a part of the total compensation package which includes eligibility for a discretionary bonus and a robust benefits package

    Hybrid Work Schedule

    • 4/1 split (Monday-Thursday work from office, Friday work from home.)
