J Harlan Group is currently conducting a search for an experienced and highly motivated Staff Accountant – Asset Management at a prominent NYC Investment Banking & Advisory firm.

An exciting opportunity reporting directly to the Assistant Controller, the Staff Accountant will assist in driving the finance and accounting activities across their managed funds The main responsibilities will include portfolio accounting-related tasks and working closely with the funds’ administrator on a regular basis but will also include assisting across other entities within the group, including the broker/dealer.

This position requires an ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where attention to detail, analytical skills and strong communication skills are essential.

This individual will be a significant contributor in enabling their vision and helping the organization to grow and improve their businesses. To be successful in this role you must be highly detail oriented and organized, able to meet assigned deadlines and have first class communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the management of the accounting & finance function, including accounting, tax, financial reporting, data analysis
  • Prepare and calculate monthly interest accruals, management fees and other expenses
  • Reconcile cash and position balances
  • Assist in the month end close process and review of monthly/quarterly NAVs
  • Support the year-end audit process
  • Assist with the review of investor tax reporting, including K-1s.
  • Support Assistant Controller, CFO, and COO with ad hoc projects and analysis

The ideal candidate would have a background including:

  • CPA with 3 to 5 years of experience in a mix of public accounting and hedge fund/fund admin roles
  • Advanced Excel skills required
  • Proficient in Word and PowerPoint
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently
  • Experience with Fund accounting/reporting required
  • Experience with portfolio accounting software is a plus
  • Very good understanding of GAAP (experience around CLOs a plus)
  • Familiarity with QuickBooks a plus
  • Strong Communication skills and ability to effectively interact with third-party administrators, business managers and senior partners on a day-to-day basis

Education / Certification:

  • Strong academic record and a bachelor’s or higher degree in Accounting, Finance or related field

The salary range is $110,000 - $130,000 plus employees may also be eligible for annual discretionary incentive compensation. Actual compensation within that range will be dependent upon the individual's skills, experience, qualifications, location, and applicable laws.
