J Harlan Group is currently conducting a search for an experienced and highly motivated Assistant Controller - Investments at a prominent NYC Private Equity - Investment Manager.

An exciting opportunity reporting directly to the CFO of this fast growing and dynamic investment organization that is experiencing exceptional growth!

Based in New York, the Assistant Controller will be responsible for the day-to-day financial activities of a $2 billion+ open ended direct lending fund and will be a valued member of the team.

The candidate will have daily exposure to senior / investment management. The ability to multi-task while maintaining an attention to detail is essential to success in this role, as well as the ability to adapt and be agile to a constantly changing environment. The candidate must be able to work independently and in group settings and be able to effectively communicate with senior/investment management across the firm. This position will be based in New York City.

This individual will be a significant contributor in enabling their vision and helping the organization to grow and improve their businesses. To be successful in this role you must be highly detail oriented and organized, able to meet assigned deadlines and have first class communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Internal oversight of the fund administrator and Loan Servicer - responsible for overseeing and reviewing fund accounting deliverables including valuations and financial statements associated with fund reporting close periods
  • Provide oversight over cash reconciliations and variance resolutions, managing all communication with third party administrator
  • Maintain and oversee expense processing and budgets for funds
  • Liaise with internal teams such as IR, Compliance, Legal, Risk, Deal Team, etc. to manage and review the fund administrator’s output deliverables
  • Assist with internal quarterly reporting of Funds' asset and revenue figures
  • Assist with resolution of all investor queries and reporting templates
  • Provide oversight on fund admin’s work mandate, SLAs, performance metrics, schedules, etc.
  • Assist with funds' annual audit coordinating with the fund administrator and external auditors

The ideal candidate would have a background including:

The successful candidate will have at least 5+ years of relevant financial experience and possess the following:

  • Experience with open-end funds and credit investments
  • Experience working with external service providers, particularly fund administrators
  • Experience in public / private fund accounting, closing, and reporting processes - US GAAP and Investment Company accounting
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong professional relationships at all levels, with both internal and external parties.
  • Maturity, presence, sound judgment, and ability to form and express opinions effectively to cross-divisional teams including senior management.

Education:

  • Strong academic record and a bachelor’s or higher degree in Accounting, Finance or related field

SALARY RANGE: The salary range is $150,000 - $200,000 plus employees may also be eligible for annual discretionary incentive compensation. Actual compensation within that range will be dependent upon the individual's skills, experience, qualifications, location, and applicable laws.
