Business Development Manager - Transactional

Law Firm - Houston, TX

Calibrate is working on behalf of a highly-regarded law firm to recruit a Business Development Manager (BDM) to support the firm’s Transactional practice groups. Reporting directly to the Chief Business Development and Marketing Officer, who is well regarded in the Legal Marketing community and provides exceptional mentorship of his team, this manager must be located in the firm’s Houston office.

This is a newly created role, and will be an essential part of building the business development team and planning and executing the firm’s strategic vision. This manager will work closely with the CMBDO, as well as attorneys and other administrative staff, to develop and support targeted initiatives that help drive new business from both existing clients and prospects. The ideal candidate will be proactive, a self-starter, curious and work collaboratively with others. Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate and develop customized responses to pitches and RFPs/RFIs and other marketing collateral for new business opportunities and client meetings;
  • Project manage directory listing and rankings process, including drafting content;
  • Manage practice group business development plans, driving activity and follow-up;
  • Track, analyze, and evaluate business development initiatives across the firm and recommend strategies to increase overall effectiveness;
  • Collect and organize lists of clients, representative matters, and representative experience for use on the firm’s website, rankings submissions, and other marketing materials;
  • Collaborate with the knowledge management department to research and analyze clients, prospects, and competitors to determine outreach strategy;
  • Monitor industry organizations for upcoming events, identifying potential speaking and sponsorship opportunities;
  • Represent the firm in the planning, execution, and participation in industry events;
  • Provide back-up as needed to fellow members of the Business Development and Marketing team;
  • Perform special projects as assigned.

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree (an MBA or JD is a plus) and have a minimum of five (5) years marketing or business development experience in a law or professional services firm. This individual must be able to communicate effectively with lawyers and colleagues across the firm at every level, as well as manage multiple projects simultaneously in an efficient manner. This individual should embrace both strategic and task-based responsibilities that offer opportunities for ongoing professional development.
