Overview
As a Systems Engineer, you will be part of a team responsible for the complete lifecycle of their clients' networks, cloud infrastructures, and systems—from planning and design to optimization and ongoing support. Your technical expertise and commitment to improvement, along with your technical leadership and guidance to internal teams, will directly advance their clients’ IT strategies.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Network Engineering
- Design, implement, and manage complex network infrastructures for various clients, including LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, VPNs, firewalls, and load balancers.
- Configure and troubleshoot network devices from diverse vendors (e.g., Cisco, Meraki, Ubiquiti UniFi).
- Implement and maintain network security best practices, including intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), access controls, and vulnerability management.
- Monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to optimize network efficiency and availability.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and procedures.
- Expertise in deploying, configuring, and managing networking equipment, including access points, switches, routers, and gateways, often leveraging centralized controllers. Experience with Ubiquiti UniFi is a plus.
Cloud Engineering
- Design, deploy, and manage scalable, secure, and highly available cloud solutions for clients on Microsoft Azure and/or Amazon Web Services (AWS) platforms.
- Implement and manage cloud security features across platforms, ensuring data protection and compliance for client environments.
- Monitor cloud resource utilization and implement cost-optimization strategies for clients.
- Contribute to disaster recovery planning and implement robust backup strategies for client cloud resources on AWS and/or Azure.
Microsoft Ecosystem Management
- Administer and maintain Microsoft 365 services for multiple clients (Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive, Intune).
- Manage and troubleshoot Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and file services for clients.
- Implement and manage endpoint security and management solutions.
- Provide technical support and guidance to end-users and client IT staff on Microsoft-related issues.
- Stay current with Microsoft product roadmaps, updates, and best practices to better serve our clients.
General Systems Engineering
- Participate in the design, implementation, and maintenance of server infrastructure (virtual and physical) for clients.
- Develop and maintain robust backup and disaster recovery solutions for all client systems.
- Monitor system performance, proactively identify and resolve issues, and ensure high availability for client environments.
- Collaborate with internal teams and directly with clients to align IT solutions with their business objectives.
- Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides for client environments.
- Research and evaluate new technologies to improve IT efficiency and effectiveness for our clients.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 4+ years of experience in a systems administration and/or engineering role within an IT environment, with a strong focus on network, cloud, and Microsoft technologies.
- Proven experience with network design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with Ubiquiti UniFi is highly preferred.
- Expertise in administering and maintaining the Microsoft ecosystem, including Windows Server, Active Directory, and Microsoft 365.
- Strong understanding of security principles and best practices in network, cloud, and on-premises environments.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with clients.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Travel may be required.
Preferred Skills & Certifications
- Ubiquiti Certifications (e.g., UCWA, UCW-LTE, UBNT).
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure Network Engineer Associate, or Azure Administrator Associate.
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate/Professional, or AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty.
- Familiarity with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
Compensation
- Base salary: $90,000 - $110,000
- 401k contribution – 5% contribution after 90 days of employment
- HSA contribution – Individual yearly maximum, for 2025 this was $4,300
- Benefits are 100% covered for the employee; 70% of partner/dependents. This goes for all benefits: health, dental, vision, critical illness, accident, and hospital.
- PTO - 4 weeks/160 hr of PTO, 5 Sick days, 4 mental health days (1 per quarter), 2 floating holidays.
