A Special Education Agency is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join their team as a Lawyer/Advocate.

This role requires experience in legislation and special education, as well as strong negotiation, organizational, and communication skills. While previous experience is preferred, we are willing to train the right candidate who demonstrates a commitment to advocating for the rights of individuals with special needs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide legal representation and advocacy for students with disabilities and their families in matters related to special education, including Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, due process hearings, and appeals.

  • Collaborate with parents, school districts, educators, and other stakeholders to develop and implement appropriate educational plans and accommodations for students with disabilities.

  • Advocate for the educational rights of students with disabilities, including the right to a free appropriate public education (FAPE) and access to necessary support services and accommodations.

  • Provide legal advice and guidance to parents, educators, and school administrators on matters related to special education law and compliance.

 

Skills required:

  • Strong negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to advocate effectively on behalf of clients in diverse settings.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.

  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Commitment to social justice, equity, and inclusion, with a passion for advocating for the rights of individuals with disabilities.

Requirements:

  • Degree from an accredited law school.

  • Admission to the bar in the relevant jurisdiction, with a minimum of 2-3 years of experience practicing law, preferably in the field of special education or disability rights.

  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations governing special education, including IDEA, Section 504, and state-specific laws.
