The Estimator is a vital role within the management team. This role is responsible for accurate takeoff’s and estimates for the Landscape/Construction division. This role works directly with the preconstruction team and reports directly to the Landscape/Construction Division Manager.



Role: Estimator


  • ·Review and Qualify Invitations to Bid Work
  • Produce Takeoffs According to Plans & Measurements Taken During Site Visits
  • Create and Review Estimate in Estimating Software for Proposal Phase
  • Create and Submit Proposal for Bid/Build Projects Within Timeline
  • Maintain Pricing Database


  • Competitive Bids Are Submitted in A Timely and Effective Manner
  • Accurate Estimates Are Created Within the Company’s Targeted Profit Margin
  • Proposals Are Submitted Within Timeline
  • Sales Goals for The Bid/Build Division Are Reached or Exceeded
  • An Accurate and Up-To-Date Item Catalogue Is Maintained


Metrics to Measure Results:

Success in this position will be measured by:

  • Landscape/Construction Division Budget Vs. Actual for Sales and Revenue
  • Job Estimated Vs. Actual Reports as Discussed in Monthly Divisional Review Meetings
  • Demonstrated Proficiency Using All Software and Technologies
  • Performance Reviews Conducted by Direct Supervisor

Review & Qualify Invitations to Bid:

  • Qualify and Enter Lead into CRM Software
  • Contact Lead and Receive Plans and Specifications; Submit an RFI If Needed
  • Review Job Plans and Specifications

Produce Takeoffs, Estimates & Proposals - Bid/Build:

  • ·Perform Site Visit and Take Pictures and Measurements as Needed
  • Produce Takeoff
  • Get Any Sub-Contractor and Materials Quote Per Job If Needed
  • ·Create and Review Estimate in Estimating Software for Proposal Phase
  • ·Create and Submit Proposal Within Timeline
  • Assign A Job Number to Sold Contract
  • Give Contract To A/R with Job Number and Any Subcontractors’ Proposals
  • Enter Job into Time Tracking Software
  • Review Materials Delivered to Site to Approve Quality and Quantity

Produce Takeoffs, Estimates & Proposals - Design /Build:

  • Review Plans: Grading, Construction, Materials, Site Logistics, Time Line, Etc. With Designer
  • Produce Precise Takeoff on All Materials in Order of Construction Process
  • ·Collaborate with Designers to Create Estimate in Estimating Software
  • Review Estimate with Designers and Adjust Per Meeting

Maintain Pricing Database:

  • Accumulate Annual Vendor Pricing Lists and Input into The Item Catalogue
  • Get Proposals on Materials and Sub-Contractors as Needed Per Job
  • Keep Pricing Database Up to Date at All Times
  • Ensure That All Bidding Assemblies and Production Rates Are Accurate

Minimum Qualifications and Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Three Years’ Experience as An Estimator, Project Manager or Related Position
  • Thorough Understanding of Construction Plans Provided by Architects and Landscape Designers
  • Proficiency in The Following Software/Technology:
    • CAD skills, AutoCAD, Vector Works, Blue Beam, etc...
    • Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
    • The Company’s Budgeting, Estimating and Electronic Timekeeping Software
    • Microsoft Outlook Suite
