Position Overview

The Project Manager is an experienced professional overseeing the production of services and products sold to clients, directing the activities of the project under your management to meet client expectations in quality and service and following and implementing company policy and procedures with all subs and teams on your project. He or She also assures that project resources are efficiently used, qualified contractors and teams are used on the job and client needs and expectations are being met. The project manager is also responsible for interviewing, and screening potential sub-contractors, building our team of qualified sub-contractors and removing non-qualified subs from our sub-contractor list, as well as assisting the sales department in determining potential client enhancement opportunities and upsells on current projects and creating and signing change orders as needed to keep the project on track.

Essential Responsibilities

  1. Plans, schedules and supervises daily construction activities of all multifaceted projects. Assists crews if necessary to meet production schedules.

  2. Monitors quality of work by daily inspecting job sites.

  3. Meets with clients or client representatives to assure expectations are being met.

  4. By means of observation and client contact, recommends enhancement opportunities

    to the sales team

  5. Review daily time sheets, receipts and other paper work before submitting to office.

  6. Review all daily time sheets and other management reports, takes action or makes

    recommendations to management to correct variances outside expected results.

  7. Monitors crew/subcontractors performance, conducts periodic performance evaluation and documents all personnel actions.

     

  1. Assists management and sales in job cost estimating.

  2. Assists Safety Director with implementation of the safety program. Enforces safe work

    behavior and maintains safe work sites.

  3. Helps to manage Snow Plowing Operations and assists plowing where needed

  4. Orders and purchases hardscape and softscape/other materials for projects under their

    management.

  5. Supports the company’s mission, goals, and strategies.

  6. Implements policies and procedures and holds sub contractors and crews accountable

    to those policies and procedures that are on their projects

  7. Give daily update on their projects to operation manager

  8. Plan the following days activities and call any client with crew changes or any deviations

    from current plans.

  9. Call all subcontractors and schedule their timeline for upcoming projects and continue

    to call for updates more frequently as the job is close to starting

  10. Communicate to client on start date and inform client at least 1 day before team will

    arrive to start project

  11. Communicate/notify office manager of when progress payments can be collected and

    when job is complete for final payment

  12. Give office check requests the night before for next days purchases

  13. Assists Facility director with keeping facility maintained and organized.

  14. Hires and fires subcontractors according to needs and policies (clears all with production

    manager for a second opinion).

  15. Responsible for building a strong highly qualified sub contractor team/list and make

    sure all current subcontractors have insurance, signed sub contractor agreements and

    meet our standards.

  16. Assist with other duties for the good of team members and the company

Knowledge and experience

  • This position requires a 2 or 4 year degree (or 10 years of working experience) in the landscape construction or related field, plus 1 year working experience as a supervisor in the horticulture industry.

  • A working knowledge of standard horticultural practices and cultural requirements is required along with a advanced understanding of landscape construction concepts.

  • Candidate must be proficient in the use of computers and have a working knowledge of Microsoft office products including word and excel.

  • Strong oral and written communication skill, supervisory skills, and mechanical aptitude are a must.

  • Candidate must have excellent organizational skills and a keen attention to detail.

    Certifications

    This position requires that the individual be certified and licensed as follows:

  • NYS Nursery and Landscape Association Certification CNLP

  • Class A NYS Drivers License

  • First aid/CPR

  • ICPI Certification Level I

  • StoneMakers Initial Certification
