Educational Background Requirements:

Bachelor Degree in science related field, preferably Microbiology, Crop Science, Biology, Chemistry and Agricultural Business and/or Food Science Or minimum of 8 years work experience with Quality Assurance in a food plant manufacturing environment.


The primary role of the Quality Assurance Manager position is to ensure compliance with all relevant Regulatory Requirements and Guidelines, Ensure compliance with all Customer Expectations and Internal Quality and Food Safety Standards and Policies. The nature of this position requires flexibility and the ability to embrace Change. The Quality Assurance Manager must be highly self-motivated and exemplify the ability to work effectively as a Team Player, with the ability to interact across departmental and cross-functional boundaries, minimizing conflict and maximizing continuous improvement and good will. Significant weight is given to this last qualification in assessing leadership capabilities.

The Quality Assurance Manager shall be able to assume duties of the Director of Food Safety and in the absence of this position, the Director of Food Safety will assume responsibilities.

Work Experience Requirements:

  • HACCP – Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point certification / formalized training
  • Experience developing and implementing a functional HACCP program
  • Working knowledge of HACCP, Food Plant Sanitation, Pest Control and GMP
  • Knowledge of GAP requirements for farming operations desirable
  • PCQI certified, and understanding of Preventive Controls.
  • Certified SQF practitioner with experience leading SQF Food Safety and Quality Audits
  • Experience with Pest Management Companies / Experience developing a Pest Management Program
  • Experience developing and implementing Raw, Finished and Environmental Microbiological Analysis Programs
  • Experience developing and performing monthly Facility Audits
  • Experience developing, implementing and training Standard Operating Procedures
  • Experience developing Raw and Finished product specifications
  • Experience developing Prerequisite Programs and Preventive Control Plans
  • Experience with Customer Complaint database tracking and feedback program
  • Experience in Sanitation Procedures
  • Experience working with Regulatory Affairs (USDA & FDA)
  • Enforce required PPE and OSHA requirements
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Word, Excel and Access experience required
  • Spanish preferred, but not required

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage QA Technicians and Supervisors
  • Mentor and train QA hourly and supervisory employees – which includes but is not limited to GMP, CCP, Food Safety, Quality Specification, Employee Safety and Sexual Harassment training.
  • Work with customers to improve relationships
  • Manage all customer complaints
  • Conduct Annual Mock Recalls per customer specifications
  • Back-Up HACCP Coordinator
  • Manage all aspects of shelf life including documentation, trend analysis and reports
  • Write all customer and product specifications; Raw and Finished
  • Conduct all internal facility audits
  • Lead all 3rd party and customer audits
  • Manage all aspects of the Microbiological Sampling Program and Test & Hold Program
  • Manage Pest Management Company
  • Monitor all GMP and Food Safety Programs
  • On call 365/24/7 manage 2 shift operation
  • 40+ work week or as necessary to complete job function
  • QA Supervisor will assume role responsibilities in case of absence
