Idaho State University’s College of Health (COH) invites applications and nominations for the position of Department Chair of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training and Program Director of Physical Therapy. As a part of the College of Health leadership team, the Department Chair of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training (PTAT) reports to the Dean of the College of Health and is a 12-month full-time position. The Department Chair of PTAT will be located at either the main campus in Pocatello, Idaho, or the ISU Meridian Sam and Aline Skaggs Health Science Center, located in Meridian, Idaho.

THE OPPORTUNITY

A national search is underway to recruit a PTAT scholar with exceptional vision and academic leadership abilities to become the next PTAT Department Chair and Program Director of PT at Idaho State University’s College of Health (COH). This is a 12-month position and is a member of the College of Health leadership team. The position reports to the Dean of the College of Health and will be located either at the main campus in Pocatello, Idaho, or the Idaho State University Meridian Sam and Aline Skaggs Health Science Center, located in Meridian, Idaho.

The preferred candidate for the Department Chair of PTAT in the College of Health should have previous experience in leadership running a research lab, mentoring graduate students, developing innovative curricular models for physical therapy and athletic training education, and assessing programmatic and student learning outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Provides innovative and effective leadership for the Department of PTAT.
• Supports the development of faculty and staff and creates a collegial culture of mutual respect and accountability.
• Champions PTAT students and serves as an advocate.
• Manages and monitors the Department of PTAT budget in support of program excellence. • Collaborates with the Dean of the COH on program development, expansion, and support for new initiatives.
• Program Director for the Physical Therapy program; ensure all aspects of accreditation are maintained.
• Responsible for directing and overseeing all matters related to the program including accreditation/ certification; program planning/review; developing and achieving annual goals/objectives; faculty and staff training, supervision, and development; and budget oversight and review.

Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be an accomplished academician with the following:
• A terminal degree in a related field (PhD, DSc, EdD, etc.)
• Eligibility for a PT license in Idaho
• Well-established and progressive record of physical therapy and athletic training education scholarship and/or grant-making consistent with the appointment in a tenured senior academic rank
• Demonstrated and progressive leadership skills
• Communication, trust and transparency
• Outstanding organizational skills
• Innovative vision for the future

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will have the following:
• Managing a research lab as a senior investigator
• Mentoring graduate students
• Developing innovative curricular models for physical therapy and athletic training education
• Assessing programmatic and student learning outcomes
• Working with diverse groups
• Dual credentials for both Physical Therapy and Athletic Training
• Experience with accreditation processes

Pocatello, ID
