Data Engineer

Our Engineering team provides engineering, product, and analytics service to the organization. We are seeking a Sr. Data Engineer for our Engineering team to help build the tools and processes to scale our use of data. If you enjoy getting your hands dirty with design and implementation of data products, taking ownership of data quality and processes, and are driven by solving interesting problems with a keen eye on details, then this role is ideal for you.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Improve the speed and the accuracy of the data pipeline
  • Instrumentation and monitoring of inputs and outputs
  • Build test coverage for the app
  • Improve the human process by building support tools
  • Support and improve node(.js) based clients to fetch source data from multiple heterogeneous systems
  • Help manage in-house and off-shore engineers on data management projects

Requirements:

  • A desire to take ownership of data and process quality
  • Confident self-starter with professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to do disruptive changes for the right reasons
  • Ability to work proactively and independently
  • Excellent capacity to learn quickly, think on the fly and self teach as required
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, problem solving, and communication skills
  • Goal oriented with strong willingness to learn and constantly improve
  • Create and monitor tests to ensure data pipeline integrity
  • Document existing and new processes

Education and Experience:

  • 5+ years of data engineering experience, using open source tools
  • Experience with stream processing technologies such as Beam, Spark
  • Strong programming experience with at least one of: Java, node.js
  • Familiarity with: Java, node.js, clojure
  • Experience with production deployment and support in an cloud ecosystem
  • Experience developing ETL with multiple external data sources
