Position Description

We are looking for an experienced Lab Technician to work on-site at our Crescent City, CA plant. The ideal candidate will have a scientific background, laboratory experience, and be familiar with cheese (or similar) manufacturing practices. They will be responsible for the testing, evaluation, analysis, monitoring, and reporting for facility processes, finished goods, and environment. They will complete all duties in a manner that is consistent with all aspects of Company Safety Rules, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Safe Quality Foods (SQF). This position reports directly to the Quality Assurance Manager.

Activities and Responsibilities:

Ensure the highest quality product by properly performing all required procedures, as instructed, and trained. Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Microbiological plating, plate reading, data recording, and reporting
  • Operate lab equipment including NIR, Babcock, pH meter, moisture meter, refractometer etc.
  • Perform all test methods according to the approved lab manual; document results and write reports
  • Perform raw material, sensory, and finished product evaluations as prescribed by training and SOP
  • Communicate with fellow employees, supervisors and managers on all Food Safety and Quality issues.
  • Ensure the Safe Quality Food (SQF) System, as defined in the SQF Code, is maintained at all times
  • Complete and promote all Safety, Sanitation, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Food Safety and Food Security Training as required by Local, State, Federal and Rumiano Cheese Company.
  • Perform other duties, and job tasks, as assigned and instructed.

Requirements:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree (food science, microbiology or similar) or equivalent training and/or experience
  • 2+ years of Food Industry lab experience in Manufacturing or Quality Assurance (cheese/dairy ideal)
  • Familiarity with GMP, cheese manufacturing, cheese composition and microbiology strongly preferred
  • Excellent communication, attention to detail and thrive in a fast faced environment
  • Strong problem-solving, prioritization; ability to work both in a team and independently
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
  • English fluency (read, write, and speak)
