Commercial Asset Manager

A key Optimus client is seeking a Commercial Asset Manager with in-depth ERCOT experience to oversee and optimize power plant assets for designated customer accounts. This role focuses on ensuring maximum profitability and return on investment through active participation in scheduling and budgeting, and maintaining a structured operating rhythm to achieve commercial and operational objectives.

Offices are south of Houston and client is in office daily.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Generate daily Profit & Loss (P&L) and portfolio position reports; compile these into a monthly P&L summary.
  • Verify settlement invoices with commercial partners (power, gas, gas transport, etc.).
  • Prepare monthly Asset Management Agreement (AMA) reports.
  • Produce monthly reports supporting plant operations and regulatory compliance (e.g., EIG 923).
  • Work closely with the Energy Management Agreement (EMA) manager on daily bidding strategies, hedging (both daily and term), fuel management, and optimization strategies.
  • Coordinate daily bidding activities with Plant Operations.
  • Conduct monthly reviews comparing budgeted and actual revenue and expenses for each plant.
  • Analyze settlement information to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Monitor transmission outages and congestion impacts.
  • Oversee credit agreement reporting requirements related to plants and commercial activities.
  • Manage commercial contracts to support development projects.
  • Build and maintain a robust commercial network.
  • Assess optimization and development opportunities, particularly for battery storage.
  • Identify premium nodal points for potential new site development.
  • Stay informed and participate in relevant regulatory and stakeholder discussions.
  • Document and evaluate ERCOT protocol changes that impact the platform.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or another technical field (MBA or advanced business degree preferred).
  • At least 5 years of asset management experience (with power plants)
  • Proficient in negotiating and managing contracts and agreements.
  • Strong knowledge of power plant systems, life-cycle analysis, operational requirements, safety, and compliance.
  • Proven commercial skills with a successful track record in planning, budgeting, and financial assessment.
  • Extensive understanding of power plant operating philosophies, processes, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated leadership and effective customer communication skills.
  • Financial and operational acumen, including understanding of project operations, cost measurement, and reporting.
  • Previous P&L ownership experience is a plus.
  • Highly organized with a systematic approach to tasks, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Technical proficiency with software, hardware, and network systems.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with strong presentation abilities.
