Job Summary:
Our client is seeking a seasoned Middle Office Risk Control Manager to oversee risk management and reporting for commodities trading. This role involves leading a team of Middle Office Analysts, ensuring accurate risk evaluations, and maintaining compliance with trading regulations and internal limits. The Manager will drive business growth through strategic risk insights and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with the Front Office to provide detailed risk assessments, facilitating business expansion through informed decisions.
- Oversee and mentor a team of 3-5 Middle Office Analysts, managing staffing needs and conducting performance reviews.
- Collaborate with Back Office, Finance, Credit, Legal, and Internal Control teams to align risk control practices with compliance requirements.
- Monitor and enforce internal trading limits, analyze non-standard transactions, and provide senior management with approval recommendations.
- Develop and implement risk management policies and procedures to support business growth and improve process controls.
- Serve as the main point of contact for trading inquiries, assisting traders with complex trade modeling.
- Lead daily risk position analysis, valuation, and reporting, ensuring adherence to trading limits and regulatory standards.
- Report on operational risk incidents and drive improvements to address identified risks.
- Work with global Risk Control teams in Geneva and Singapore, serving as an expert in North American Power markets.
- Manage trading risk positions and P&L reporting for power trading activities, including flexible power generation and structured transactions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Mathematics, Economics, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a mid-office commodity trading role, with prior experience in a supervisory or team lead capacity preferred.
- Deep understanding of the energy sector, commodity trading, and risk management, especially in North American Power markets.
- Knowledge of ISOs/RTOs, power fundamentals, and both financial and physical power trading required.
- Strong analytical skills, with excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Experience in mentoring junior analysts and a focus on operational excellence.
