Natural Gas Market Analyst

A Key Optimus Client is currently looking for a talented Natural Gas analyst to join their team. In this role you will develop and maintain models for US gas market analysis, collaborate on data tools, create predictive forecasting models, advise on market dynamics, and support trading desks while providing reports and training for junior analysts.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain models for US gas market analysis, including supply, demand, storage, and weather impact, while staying updated on market dynamics, companies, infrastructure, and regulations.
  • Collaborate with IT and data scientists to enhance data gathering and analysis tools, explore new data sources, and expand US gas analytics capabilities.
  • Create and maintain predictive forecasting models, incorporating quantitative and qualitative methods, and act as the primary contact for US gas market inquiries on the trading floor.
  • Stay informed about trading desk business models and positions to formulate market views, provide trading recommendations, and produce price forecasts.
  • Lead discussions on the future outlook of the US gas market with trading desks and senior management.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in other regional offices, such as US power analysts, and leverage advanced analytical techniques with quantitative analysts and data scientists.
  • Conduct ad hoc analyses and projects to support traders and senior management.
  • Prepare written reports and presentations for global trading desks, senior management, European headquarters, affiliates, and market partners on market-related topics.
  • Provide analytical support to European headquarters on market-related issues, including Strategy, E&P, and Business Development.
  • Assist in the training of junior market analysts.

Job Requirements:

  • Postgraduate degree in Economics, Business, Mathematics, or Engineering (or equivalent experience with an undergraduate degree).
  • Minimum 5 years of analytical or quantitative experience with strong modeling and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of the US gas market, infrastructure, and production economics.
  • Previous experience in a trading environment is necessary.
  • Proficiency in programming (SQL/R/Python) and visualization tools (Tableau/PowerBI) preferred.
  • Must be autonomous, objective, innovative, well-organized, and able to communicate complex ideas clearly.
  • Occasional travel to Europe may be necessary
