Key Responsibilities

• Review project plans, specifications, and requirements to develop accurate scopes of work, labor, and equipment costs.
• Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and self-perform or unit price estimates for heavy highway projects.
• Analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes, ensuring accuracy and assessing performance history.
• Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits to gather critical insights for bid preparation.
• Identify bid qualifications, risks, and assumptions to ensure competitiveness and precision.
• Develop and present bid packages, leveraging cost history to validate estimates.
• Collaborate with team members to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve efficiencies.
• Utilize estimating software, such as B2W Estimate, to produce accurate and comprehensive bid documentation.

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Experience: 5-6 years of experience in estimating heavy highway or DOT projects, with expertise in construction means and methods.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Technical Proficiency: Skilled in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word) and familiar with estimating tools like B2W Estimate.
• Construction Knowledge: Strong understanding of reading and interpreting construction plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports.
• Soft Skills:
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy in all aspects of estimating.
  • Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Highly organized, capable of managing multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Analytical thinker with a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Position Details

• Location: Mercer, PA, with occasional travel for pre-bid meetings and site visits.
• Schedule: Full-time role with standard business hours.
• Compensation: $90-110K annually, based on experience, plus comprehensive benefits and PTO.
