Electrical Engineer - Natural Gas Generators

PRC Resources - Midland, TX, United States

INDUSTRY: Oilfield Services

LOCATION: Midland, TX

CONTEXT:  Our client, a leader in oilfield equipment rentals, is seeking a technically skilled and client-facing Electrical Engineer to support oil and gas drilling operations. This role is critical in designing and specifying temporary power solutions, especially natural gas generator systems, for remote and rugged drilling sites. The ideal candidate will act as the bridge between engineering and sales—joining client meetings to scope projects, explain power solutions, and ensure safe, code-compliant system designs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend client sales and planning meetings as the subject matter expert on electrical power generation for oilfield applications.
  • Design and engineer temporary power systems for oil and gas drilling operations, with a focus on natural gas and dual-fuel generators.
  • Specify electrical equipment and layout for remote power generation, distribution panels, switchgear, and load banks.
  • Develop and interpret single-line diagrams, load calculations, and site-specific power distribution plans.
  • Ensure designs meet NEC, IEEE, and other applicable standards, while also complying with client-specific HSE and operational requirements.
  • Support field teams during system deployment, startup, and troubleshooting in remote environments.
  • Coordinate with sales, operations, and logistics teams to ensure equipment and designs meet site demands and timelines.
  • Provide training and technical documentation to internal teams and clients as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
  • 3+ years of experience working with generator-based power systems, ideally in oilfield or industrial settings.
  • Knowledge of natural gas generator sizing, integration, and fuel system requirements.
  • Field experience supporting temporary power systems for remote or mobile installations is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills for interfacing with clients, operations teams, and sales staff.
  • Strong understanding of power distribution, grounding, load balancing, and protection systems.
  • Familiarity with NEC, IEEE, API, and regional oilfield regulations.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, ETAP, or other power system modeling tools is a plus.
  • Willingness to occasionally travel to drilling sites or remote client locations.
