CONTEXT: Our client is seeking experienced OTDR Technicians to support the installation, testing, and maintenance of fiber optic networks. The ideal candidates will have expertise in using Fluke OTDR testing/analyzers, fiber fusion splicing, and the ability to work independently in the field. This role is key in ensuring the quality and integrity of fiber optic systems for both new projects and ongoing maintenance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform OTDR testing and analysis on fiber optic networks to ensure proper functionality and performance.
  • Utilize Fluke OTDR testing/analyzers to measure loss, faults, and reflectance in both single-mode and multi-mode fiber.
  • Conduct fiber fusion splicing, ensuring precision and adherence to industry standards.
  • Interpret OTDR test results, diagnosing any issues with the fiber network and providing actionable recommendations.
  • Prepare detailed reports and documentation of test results, network conditions, and any corrective actions taken.
  • Troubleshoot fiber optic faults and resolve issues on-site, working efficiently and independently.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and ensure the proper functioning of OTDR and fusion splicing equipment.
  • Support fiber optic network installations, maintenance, and repairs, ensuring work is completed to specification.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and team members to update on progress and resolve issues.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and industry best practices while working on-site.
  • Manage work orders, schedules, and customer requests independently while adhering to timelines.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven experience as an OTDR Technician, with hands-on proficiency in Fluke OTDR testing/analyzers.
  • Strong knowledge of fiber optic components, including both single-mode and multi-mode fiber types.
  • Experienced in fiber fusion splicing for various fiber optic configurations.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret OTDR traces, identifying issues such as fiber loss or faults.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills to effectively document findings and communicate with clients and stakeholders.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Certification in Fiber Optic Technology (e.g., Fluke Networks Certification, Fiber Optic Technician (FOT) certification).
  • Familiarity with additional fiber optic testing equipment such as power meters and light sources.
  • Experience working in telecommunications or fiber optic installation/maintenance roles.
  • Understanding of fiber optic network design and troubleshooting procedures
