CONTEXT: As Outside Sales Representative, you will be responsible for driving sales of low-voltage networked lighting controls and intelligent lighting solutions. This is a dynamic role that blends technical knowledge with strong sales acumen. You will be tasked with navigating complex decision-making processes to position our solutions as the best fit for client needs.

This position will be remote with no set office location, and your sales territory will be nationwide. You’ll play a key role in scaling the business and will be responsible for sales previously handled by a key team member. The ideal candidate should have a strong work ethic and the ability to push emerging technology against industry resistance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Target key market segments (e.g., healthcare, education, commercial real estate) to find new business opportunities and expand the company's reach.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong, lasting relationships with decision-makers such as facility managers, electrical contractors, architects, and design professionals.
  • Lead sales engagements by understanding client needs, identifying operational inefficiencies, and tailoring solutions to improve their lighting and energy management.
  • Develop customized proposals, quotes, and contracts based on client specifications and requirements.
  • Develop and present supporting marketing materials like case studies and product collateral to aid in business development.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to refine go-to-market strategies and execution plans.
  • Conduct engaging product demonstrations to effectively communicate the value and ROI of intelligent lighting solutions.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive offerings to better inform your sales strategy.
  • Attend trade shows, industry events, and networking functions to promote the company and engage with potential clients.
  • Track and manage sales opportunities and customer interactions within the CRM system, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5 years of experience in outside sales, preferably in the lighting, electrical, or building automation industries.
  • Proven track record of success in selling disruptive technologies or solutions that require customer education and adoption.
  • Resilient, persistent, and comfortable handling objections and rejections throughout the sales process.
  • Ability to navigate complex sales cycles, building trust and strong relationships with multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think strategically and adapt to client needs.
  • Proficiency in CRM software (e.g., Salesforce) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Willingness to travel within the assigned territory to meet with clients as needed.
  • Experience working with facility owners, school districts, or large-scale commercial real estate operators.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and certifications (e.g., LEED, DLC, Title 24).
  • Previous experience with low-voltage lighting control systems, particularly with manufacturers or distributors.
  • Background in solution-based, consultative selling rather than transactional sales.
